South Jersey high school football roundup for Week 7

Even some wet weather wasn't going to slow down the Camden High School football team.

Senior Judah Anthony ran nine times for 122 yards and a score while junior quarterback Mahki Brunson completed 11-of-16 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown as the Panthers pounded out a 41-6 victory at Paulsboro on Saturday.

Junior Malik Redd had five catches for 162 yards as Camden piled up 483 yards of total offense and extended its winning streak to seven.

Pennsauken 34, Camden Catholic 0: Elijah Jennings found the end zone four times and the Pennsauken defense posted its third shutout of the season with the home win.

Salem 38, West Deptford 14: Junior DaviYonn Jackson scored four touchdowns powering the Rams to victory on its debut on its new home field. After starting the season 0-6, Salem has won two straight games.

Vineland 38, Egg Harbor Twp. 0: Tyrell Powell threw for two touchdowns and rushed for a third score while Ryant Maven returned an interception 61 yards for a touchdowns as the Fighting Clan posted a win on Homecoming. Vineland ended a four-game winning streak with its second shutout of the season.

Moorestown 41, Pemberton 0: The Quakers snapped a two-game losing streak in dominating fashion with their fourth shutout of the season.

Burlington City 60, Palmyra 0

Willingboro 41, Nottingham 0

Eastern 40, Trenton Central 0

Rancocas Valley 38, Northern Burlington 3

Clayton 44, Maple Shade 14

Friday's Games

Jamar Warthen caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Tirico in the first quarter and added an interception late in the fourth as Seneca took down Cinnaminson 13-9 Friday night, ending the Pirates' undefeated season.

Zac Fearon added a 3-yard TD run for the Golden Eagles (6-1), while Cinnaminson’s lone score came on a Kyle Willis 47-yard run in the first quarter. Aeden Burke also hit a 28-yard field goal for the Pirates (7-1). This was the fourth win in a row for Seneca.

Cherokee 34, Kingsway 7: Ryan Bender had four rushing touchdowns and Murad Campfield ran in one of his own as the Chiefs won their fourth straight to improve to 6-1.

Kingsway scored its lone touchdown late in the fourth quarter when Benny Liles caught a 29-yard pass from David Oravetz. Prior to Friday night, Cherokee hadn’t given up a touchdown since the first quarter of its second game of the season against Hammonton, meaning the Chiefs went 22 straight quarters without allowing a TD.

Highland 50, Triton 14: Nemo Butler-Mayhew ran for four touchdowns as the Tartans improved to 5-3. Mike Furlow added a 12-yard TD run, Mekhi Brown returned a kickoff 55 yards to the house and Eli Frazier caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from Connor Leary to round out Highland’s scoring. Triton falls to 3-5 on the year.

Millville 35, Ocean City 0: Lotzeir Brooks had a 36-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter and caught three more TDs from Jacob Zamot in the second quarter (56, 59 and 32 yards) as the Thunderbolts improved to 6-1. Zamot also threw a 72-yard touchdown to Ta’Ron Haile and the Millville defense posted its second shutout of the year. Ocean City is now 2-5 this season.

Washington Twp. 29, Shawnee 22: Logan Perez had 11 catches for 160 yards and what amounted to a game-winning, 37-yard TD grab to start the third quarter as the Minutemen downed Shawnee on Friday night.

Quarterback Cole Aquino was 17-of-23 for 227 yards, 2 TDs and 2 interceptions, Jared Dzierzgowski ran 28 times for 105 yards and 2 scores and had a pick on defense, and DaShawn Long had 6 grabs for 67 yards and a touchdown, and he produced an interception as well.

Mainland 49, Clearview 20: Stephen Ordille had three rushing scores and John Franchini threw three passing touchdowns as Mainland improved to 8-0.

Rocco DeBiaso caught two of Franchini’s TDs while Jamie Tyson snagged the other. Jake Blum added a 60-yard pick-six for the Mustangs as well. Brian Brown had two rushing touchdowns for Clearview (2-5) while Matthew Babcock caught the Pioneers’ lone passing touchdown on a 2-yard toss from Tyler Dell.

St. Augustine 30, Camden Eastside 0: St. Augustine’s defense posted its third shutout of the season and the Prep won its fourth straight to improve to 6-2 on the year. Paris Pratt caught two touchdown passes from Ryan Gambill and Julian Turney scored two rushing touchdowns to pace the Hermits’ offensive attack. With the loss, the Tigers are now 4-3 on the year.

Haddonfield 48, Woodstown 16: Dominic Hahn scored four touchdowns – three rushing and one on a 62-yard pass from Declan McCarthy – as the Bulldawgs improved to 6-1. Haddonfield’s Charlie Klaus ran in a 16-yard touchdown and also caught a 57-yard TD from McCarthy, while Kai Richards’ 68-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter was the final score of the game.

Bryce Belinfanti and Alex Torres each had a rushing score for Woodstown (5-2).

Overbrook 48, Lindenwold 12: DeAngello Conquest threw four touchdowns to four different receivers (Jalen Aiken, Elvin Santiago, Rahsir McQueen-Futch and Teriq Moore) as Overbrook improved to 4-3. Conquest became the seventh quarterback in South Jersey history to throw for at least 6,000 yards and 60 touchdowns in his career. He's also the sixth in area history to thrown for 1,000 yards as a freshman, sophomore, junior and senior.

Axcel Bailey added a rushing touchdown and Maki Ortiz returned a fumble to the house for the victors as well. Lindenwold remains winless at 0-7.

Timber Creek 20, Williamstown 6: Chase Conway and Amir Reason-Dallas both had rushing touchdowns and Marcus Upton caught a TD pass from Reilly Hoffacker as the Chargers took down the Braves. The win improves Timber Creek to 7-0, while Williamstown falls to 0-8.

Delsea 41, Hammonton 6: Wayne Adair rushed for three touchdowns, Zach Maxwell ran for two and Xavier Watt scored on a 57-yard jaunt as the Crusaders dominated the Blue Devils. Delsea has now won five in a row and sits at 6-1 on the year, while Hammonton lost its second straight to drop to 4-4.

Pleasantville 52, Absegami 13: Pleasantville’s Dwayne Carter returned the game’s opening kickoff to the house and the Greyhounds sprinted to their sixth-straight victory. Khalil Witherspoon caught a pair of TD passes from Ahmad Jones, Kwalil Shepperson ran in two touchdowns and Rashad Floyd and Yusuf Golden both had a rushing scores as Pleasantville improved to 6-1. Pedro Reyes and Ibn Russell each had a receiving touchdown for Absegami (2-6), which has now lost four in a row.

Notre Dame 50, Delran 22: AJ Surace had five passing touchdowns and one rushing score as Notre Dame more than doubled Delran’s scoring output. Vinny Sacca had two rushing scores for the Bears while Zahir Cobbins got into the end zone from 6 yards out. The Fighting Irish remain undefeated at 8-0 while Delran drops to 2-6.

Cherry Hill East at Cherry Hill West, ppd.: The Battle for the Boot – the annual high school football game between crosstown rivals Cherry Hill East and Cherry Hill West – has been postponed from Friday to Oct. 26, it was announced on the district website Friday.

Middle Township 48, Bridgeton 6: The Panthers improved to 7-1 while the Bulldogs fell to 0-8. Middle Township has won its last two games by a combined total score of 104-6.

Penns Grove 32, Pennsville 3: Knowledge Young started the night off with a bang, returning the opening kickoff 93 yards for a 6-0 lead just 15 seconds into the game and the Red Devils never looked back. Young also had a 61-yard rushing TD and Bryce Wright ran in two touchdowns of his own as Penns Grove won its third game in a row and now sits at 4-4 on the year.  Pennsville’s only points came on a Jackson Leino 25-yard field goal in the first quarter.

Schalick 35, Cumberland 8: Schalick remained perfect at 8-0 while Cumberland dropped to 3-5. This is the first time that the Cougars have started a season with eight straight wins since 2006.

Cedar Creek 13, Oakcrest 0: Aamir Dunbar scored on a 3-yard touchdown run in the first half and the Pirates added seven more points following the break to improve to 6-2 on the season. This was the third shutout of the season for the Cedar Creek defense. Oakcrest falls to 4-4.

Haddon Heights 41, Audubon 3: Jayden Trace and Joshua Freeman both caught touchdown passes in the first half and the Garnets kept their foot on the gas to improve to 5-2. Audubon (3-3) took an early 3-0 lead in the contest but was unable to hold it.

Holy Cross 32, Gloucester Catholic 27: The Lancers used a pair of hook-and-ladder calls late in the fourth quarter to rally past Gloucester Catholic on Friday night.

On both plays, Will Updike completed a pass to Manny Doku, who then flipped the ball to Chris Scott. The first hook-and-ladder converted a fourth down, the second of which had Scott run in for a game-winning, 18-yard TD.

Scott finished with three scores, including a kickoff return TD and a rushing touchdown, and he added an interception on defense.

Lower Cape May 60, Buena 0: The Caper Tigers won their fifth game in a row and now sit at 6-1 this season. Buena fell to 0-7. The 60 points was the most scored by LCM in the 98 years. According to South Jersey football historian Chuck Langerman, Cape May High, as the school was named at the time, posted a 78-0 win over Tuckerton in 1925.

Gloucester 42, Sterling 0: Since losing its home opener 17-14 to still-undefeated Schalick, the Lions have been on a tear, winning six straight to improve to 6-1 on the season. Sterling is on the opposite end of the spectrum and has lost seven in a row since starting its year with a Week 1 win over Lindenwold.

Haddon Township 20, Wildwood 2: The Hawks took down the Warriors and have now won back-to-back games for the first time this season. Haddon Township is 3-4 on the year while Wildwood lost its sixth in a row and is 1-6 on the season.

Pitman 20, Gateway 6: The Panthers snapped a two-game losing streak and picked up their second win of the season to improve to 2-4. Gateway (1-6) hasn’t won since its first game of the season, a 19-0 shutout over Haddon Township.

Paul VI 42, Collingswood 0: The Eagles won their sixth game in a row and are now 6-1 this year. Collingswood’s record fell to 4-4 following the defeat.

Bordentown 27, Lawrence 20: The Scotties (3-5) earned their third win of the season while Lawrence fell to 0-8.

Winslow 49, Burlington Township 20: The Eagles soared to victory over the Falcons and now have a 6-2 record this season. Burlington Township has dropped six in a row since its 2-0 start.

Lenape 30, St. Joseph 8: Lenape snapped a two-game losing streak in convincing fashion and improved its season record to 3-5. St. Joseph fell to 0-8 with the defeat.
