South Heart upends Glen Ullin-Hebron, 55-40

Feb. 9—GLEN ULLIN — The South Heart Eagles soared into the Division B-District 5 Tournament with a road-win over Glen Ullin-Hebron on Thursday, Feb. 8 and now get to play #1-ranked Bowman County on Saturday, Feb. 10 with their game and the tournament starting at 1 p.m. South Heart led Thursday's contest throughout, and kept the Bearcats on their heels with solid outside shooting and tight defense.

The Eagles flew through the first quarter and posted a 13-10 lead after eight minutes and then built that advantage further before the halftime break with the teams heading into the locker rooms at 26-18 to the visitors. Brogan Boltz ripped off a lightning-fast 6 points in the first quarter on two 3-pointers and totaled 8 for the first 16 minutes of play, while sophomore guard Megan Robb added a trey and totaled 5 in the first half.

Bearcat sophomore guard Cassie Christensen kept the game within reach on 9 points and freshman guard Tahj Thomas dropped in a shot from behind the arc, while Glen Ullin-Hebron converted 4-of-9 shots from the free-throw line, but the home-team was held to single-digits at 8 in the second period.

Senior forward Molly Robb caught fire in the third and added 8 points to tie for the team-high at 12 and sophomore standout Kailee Tescher had 6 points in the final frame to pace the visitors down the stretch, while Boltz scored another 4 to equal Molly Robb at 12. Senior Sage LeCoe also had a spectacular second half, scoring 8 of her double-digit 11 in the final 16 minutes to help the Eagles close out the contest with a 17-point final quarter for the win.

Christensen kept up the pressure for the Bearcats with 12 more points — which included 8-of-12 from the charity-stripe — for her game-high 21 and junior forward Paige Kraenzel scored 6 of her 9 points in the second half as well. Overall, Glen Ullin-Hebron shot 18-for-27 from the line during the losing effort.

Also on the slate for Saturday's tournament-opening day with be games between Hettinger-Scranton and Belfield, Grant Co./Mott-Regent vs. New England in the nightcap and Flasher will have to await the winner of the Friday, Feb. 9 play-in matchup between Richardton-Taylor and Beach to learn who they face.
