South Carolina women's basketball freshman Sahnya Jah suspended indefinitely
COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina women's basketball freshman forward Sahnya Jah has been suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team, South Carolina announced Thursday.
Coach Dawn Staley wouldn't give more details of Jah's suspension after the No. 1 Gamecocks (22-0, 10-0 SEC) defeated Missouri 83-45.
“It'll be day by day,” Staley said of Jah's time away from the team. “She'll work toward getting a little bit closer to coming back, but it will be day-to-day.”
The 6-foot Jah has played in 16 of South Carolina's 21 games this season, averaging 9.1 minutes per game. She is recording 3.1 points and two rebounds a game.
While Jah's minutes have been limited in her freshman season, her role was expected to increase against Missouri and for Sunday's game against UConn with senior center Kamilla Cardoso away with Team Brazil at an Olympic qualifying event.
The Gamecocks' depth was expected to be thinner without Cardoso, but the team now has four post players available − sophomore forward Ashlyn Watkins, junior forward Sania Feagin, sophomore forward Chloe Kitts and senior center Sakima Walker.
Jah, from Alexandria, Virginia, played her senior season of high school at Montverde Academy, helping the team to the 2023 GEICO High School National Championship. She was the No. 40 player overall in the Class of 2023.
