South Carolina QB Spencer Rattler improves NFL Draft stock with Senior Bowl performance

Former South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler may not go in the first or second rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft.

But he could go soon after that.

The former Arizona high school standout impressed during the Reese's Senior Bowl, and likely improved his draft stock in the process.

Rattler, a Phoenix Pinnacle high product, shined all week at the event and culminated the showcase by being named the MVP at the Senior Bowl game, drawing praise from NFL writers, scouts and fans for his play, and his poise.

Rattler showed his elite arm and potential throughout the week and some NFL team is going to fall in love with that arm and that potential leading up to the draft.

Check out what writers are saying about Rattler and his NFL draft chances after his performance.

Where could Rattler end up being taken in the 2024 NFL Draft?

The Draft Network: Spencer Rattler will offer terrific value in NFL Draft

Justin Melo writes: "NFL coaching staffs will appreciate Rattler's willingness and ability to push the ball vertically off play-action concepts. An experienced three-and-a-half-year starter, there are little-to-no wasted movements when Rattler operates from the pocket and well-developed mechanics are present. He's capable of operating from within structure and possesses enough mobility necessary to extend plays when protection breaks down. With 16 career rushing touchdowns to his name, opposing defenses must be wary of the threat Rattler poses with his legs. All 32 franchises walked away impressed with how Rattler carried himself on and off the field in Mobile. A mature leader, Rattler undeniably boosted his pre-draft stock at this year's Senior Bowl through quality performances and offers terrific value in the second or third round of the 2024 NFL Draft."

Sports Illustrated: Spencer Rattler could jump in NFL Draft after Senior Bowl performance

Joseph Griffin writes: "Especially after his Senior Bowl practices and game performance, I see him jumping into the third round and possibly even a second-round draft pick, depending on what he does in Indy, as he still has the NFL Combine to wow the scouts and front office personnel. … Rattler impressed during the Senior Bowl, and each still has the chance to improve their stock, especially Rattler."

Draft Wire: Spencer Rattler launches himself up NFL Draft boards

Natalie Miller writes: "While Rattler is unlikely to go in the first round, this whole Senior Bowl process has been a big boost to him, displaying he can lead a team and make NFL-level throws. In a stacked quarterback class with a bunch of mid-range talent sticking together in the process, standing out will only serve Rattler well moving forward."

First Round Mock: Spencer Rattler is a starting QB in the NFL

William Yanish writes: "Rattler is a starting QB in the NFL, and he has the potential to be a great one. There is a certain je ne sais quoi about him. Merriam-Webster defines “je ne sais quoi” as something (such as an appealing quality) that cannot be adequately described or expressed. There will be scouts pounding the table just to get him in the building. The adversity he has overcome from his days at Oklahoma, combined with his steady growth, has been outstanding. Rattler will go higher in the draft than anyone in the media predicts (except maybe First Round Mock’s Daniel Kelly, who has him as “QB1” for this draft written in concrete)."

A to Z Sports: What does Spencer Rattler's performance mean for his draft stock?

Travis May writes: "It seems he's clearly done enough to prove that he is the best quarterback in this class after those top six, but given his inconsistent performance throughout his career overall it seems unlikely he'll be a first or second round signal caller. His analytical profile as a passer typically fits early day three NFL Draft selections, but his strong showing at the Senior Bowl, and the likely hype train that will follow now may just earn him round three capital in the 2024 NFL Draft."

'I'm ready to go': Former Pinnacle QB Spencer Rattler not counting himself out as he prepares for NFL draft

Pro Football Network: Spencer Rattler impressed at Senior Bowl

Ian Cummings writes: "If we’re assessing Senior Bowl QB performance under the dual-sided criteria of keeping the offense on schedule and operating with consistency, while also elevating the unit with one’s natural talent, then there are very few arguments to make against Spencer Rattler as the top QB at the event. Rattler did throw an interception on the first day, but even there, he showed right away that he wasn’t afraid to take chances. The ensuing two days brought a barrage of high-velocity throws placed to receiver leverage at various levels, but Rattler also processed well, took what was given, and used his athleticism to create when needed. Just as important as Rattler’s play was his demeanor. Watching him work in the huddle, Rattler had good command and was vocal in conducting the offense. He’s undoubtedly a riser after Mobile — the only question is how far. Seeing his natural talent and growth, it’s not out of the question that he could be a priority target early on Day 2."

NFL Spin Zone: Spencer Rattler rehabbed his NFL draft stock at Senior Bowl

Scott Alan Salomon writes: "This was supposed to be the Michael Penix, Jr. and Bo Nix coming out party for the NFL scouts in attendance. It did not work out that way at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, on Saturday. No one told former Oklahoma and South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler to follow the script. Rattler was named the MVP of the Reese's Senior Bowl as the National team defeated the American team 16-7. Rattler, who quarterbacked the American squad, the losing team, was still named the MVP for the touchdown drive that he led in the first quarter. Rattler went 4-for-4 on the drive for 65 yards and threw the American team's only touchdown. Rattler was gracious in accepting the award and thought that playing in the game was beneficial."
