South Carolina football WR Ahmarean Brown out vs. Furman after lower-body injury

COLUMBIA — South Carolina football will be without senior wide receiver Ahmarean Brown for the remainder of its home opener against Furman due to a lower-body injury.

Brown logged 40 receiving yards on five catches plus two rushing yards Saturday before he exited the game late in the second quarter after taking a tackle to his legs during a punt return. The return, which he carried to around the 50-yard line, was called back due to an illegal block in the back.

Brown was helped off of the field by two athletic trainers and didn't put weight on his right leg. He was seen using crutches on the sideline. The senior was also banged up during South Carolina's Week 1 matchup with North Carolina, failing to finish the game after suffering a rib injury in the second half.

Starting defensive back Keenan Nelson Jr. left the game shortly after Brown with an undisclosed injury and did not return before halftime. The Gamecocks (0-1) led Furman (0-1) 27-14 at halftime.

South Carolina leads the all-time series with the Paladins 28-20-1, and it has won both meetings with Furman since 2000. The teams last faced off in Columbia in 2014, and the Gamecocks won 41-10.
