South Carolina football vs. Mississippi State: Game time, TV channel announced for Week 4
COLUMBIA — South Carolina football will play its second game of 2023 under the lights at Williams-Brice Stadium when it hosts Mississippi State in Week 4.
The Gamecocks (1-1) kick off their matchup with Mississippi State (2-0) at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 23, and the game will be televised on SEC Network. It has been a decade since the Bulldogs came to Columbia, and South Carolina won the 2013 meeting 34-16.
The Gamecocks will also retire Alshon Jeffrey's No. 1 jersey at halftime against the Bulldogs. The Matthews native played for South Carolina from 2009-2011, helping the program to its first SEC East title in 2010. He was a unanimous first-team All-SEC selection, and All-American and a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award that season.
South Carolina leads the all-time series with Mississippi State 9-7 after winning seven consecutive meetings from 2000-2013. However, the Bulldogs won 27-14 the last time the teams played in Starkville in 2016. Mississippi State's last win in Columbia was a 38-0 shutout in 1998.
The Gamecocks open SEC play against No. 1 Georgia (2-0) in Athens on Saturday (3:30 p.m., CBS) after a decisive 47-21 win over Furman.
