REPLAY: South Carolina heartbroken in 41-39 homecoming loss against Florida

COLUMBIA — South Carolina football aims for a bounce-back win after its Week 5 loss at Tennessee when Florida comes to Columbia for the Gamecocks' homecoming game.

South Carolina (2-3, 1-2 SEC) hosts the Gators (4-2, 2-1) at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday (3:30 p.m., SEC Network). Florida routed the Gamecocks 38-6 last season in Gainesville, with South Carolina's only points coming from a fake punt that punter Kai Kroeger threw 48 yards to Dakereon Joyner for a touchdown.

Florida leads the all-time series with South Carolina 30-10-3, but the SEC East matchup has been more balanced in recent years with the Gamecocks trailing just 6-4 over the last 10 meetings. Eight of South Carolina's 10 wins in the history of the series have come at Williams-Brice Stadium, and Florida has lost in three of its last five trips to Columbia.

Its a quarterback day and Graham Mertz adds another touchdown to his resume after a 4 yard pass to tight end Arlis Boardingham in a four minute drive. After the PAT Gators trail 37-34 with 4:40 on the clock.

South Carolina 37, Florida 27: Making breathing room

Back to back touchdowns helps the Gamecocks breathe a little easier with a 33 yard reception from quarterback Spencer Rattler to tight end Joshua Simon. The PAT is not clean and USC leads by ten with nine minutes left in the game.

South Carolina 31, Florida 27: Picking up the pace

After a quiet third quarter, the Gamecocks quickly found their momentum once again in the final 15 minutes of the game. Quarterback Spencer Rattler makes a 3 yard pass to running back Juju McDowell for a South Carolina touchdown. After the PAT USC is now ahead 31-27.

Florida 27, South Carolina 24: Back to back FG's

Both the Gamecocks and Gators are having a hard time to find the end zone so field goals seem to be the safest option for the pair. Kicker Trey Smack gets his fourth field goal of the day logging 54 yards. Gators lead by three.

Florida 24, South Carolina 24: Starting the second half even

Trying to get back on track is USC who raises its score to 24 after a 27 yard field goal by kicker Mitch Jeter. 10 more minutes on the clock for the third quarter and plenty of time for either team to make a stretch to control the game.

Second Quarter

Florida 24, South Carolina 21: Gators racking up FG's

Seconds left in the second half and the Gators scrape away yet another field goal with a 28 yard kick by kicker Trey Smack. Gators lead 24-21.

After Florida made many attempts to slow down South Carolina, the Gamecocks still kept their momentum with a with a 20 yard passing touchdown from quarterback Spencer Rattler to running back Mario Anderson. After the PAT the game is all tied up with less than five minutes in the first half.

Quarterback Graham Mertz makes a 7 yard passing touchdown to wide receiver Kahleil Jackson. After choosing to try out a two point conversion and succeeding, Florida leads 21-14.

South Carolina 14, Florida 13: UF keeping it close with a FG

Fighting to catch up is the Gators who grab their second field goal of the day ranging 44 yards by kicker Trey Smack. 13:39 on the clock and Florida trails South Carolina by one.

First Quarter

South Carolina 14, Florida 10: Early offensive affair continues

An action packed first quarter isn't over yet, with the Gamecocks grabbing a 17 yard rushing touchdown by running back Juju McDowell. After the PAT the two minute drive comes to an end with USC taking the lead for the first time today.

Florida 10, South Carolina 7: Florida ready to fight back

After a three and a half minute drive, the Gators opt for a field goal at the 48 yard line that ends up in their favor thanks to kicker Trey Smack. Four minutes left on the clock ad Florida regains its lead 10-7.

Florida 7, South Carolina 7: Gamecocks bite back

Just three minutes after Florida silenced he crowd, Gamecock fans were roaring again after a 6 yard reception from quarterback Spencer Rattler to tight end Trey Knox. After the PAT the game is tied at the 7:49 mark.

Florida 7, South Carolina 0: Gators get it going early

Stunning the South Carolina homecoming crowd is Florida with an early 3 yard rushing touchdown by running back Trevor Etienne. The play was reviewed and the call remained. After the PAT the Gators lead 7-0 with 10 minutes on the clock.
