South Carolina football injury update: OL Vershon Lee, WR Ahmarean Brown out vs Texas A&M

COLUMBIA — South Carolina football will be without starting right tackle Vershon Lee and starting wide receiver Ahmarean Brown against Texas A&M, and as of Thursday, three more starters are listed as questionable.

Coach Shane Beamer said on his "Carolina Calls" radio show that star wide receiver Xavier Legette remains questionable when the Gamecocks (2-5, 1-4) face the Aggies (4-3, 2-2) on Saturday (noon, SEC Network). Legette entered last week's game against Missouri ranked No. 5 in the country in receiving yards, but he exited late in the first quarter with an upper-body injury after playing in coverage on a kick return. Beamer said Legette's injury will not be long term, even if he is out this week.

Lee suffered a knee injury late in the first half against Florida in Week 7 and missed the Missouri game. The Gamecocks' offensive line struggled visibly without him, giving up six sacks and facilitating just 69 yards in the run game. Right guard Trovon Baugh and left tackle Tree Babalade are also questionable against Texas A&M.

South Carolina has placed 11 offensive linemen under an injury designation since the start of 2023, and three of those players suffered season-ending injuries. Beamer said Thursday that freshman tight ends Connor Cox and Lukas Vozeh played offensive linemen on the scout team in practice.

Brown has grappled periodically with a hamstring injury since exiting early in the second half against North Carolina in Week 1. He missed both the Georgia and Mississippi State games, then logged just three combined catches against Tennessee and Florida. He made three receptions for 21 yards against Missouri before exiting with the injury.

If Legette also is ruled out, the Gamecocks will not have any of their starting wide receivers active against the Aggies. Preseason All-SEC selection Antwane "Juice" Wells has not played since suffering a foot injury at Georgia in Week 3.
