Sources: Mets expected to retain pitching coach Jeremy Hefner under new manager Carlos Mendoza

Once Carlos Mendoza’s contract with the Mets is finalized, he will need to fill out a coaching staff. According to sources, highly regarded pitching coach Jeremy Hefner is expected to remain in his role.

Third base coach Joey Cora, whose contract expired at the end of October, has received interest from multiple clubs, but could be in the mix to join a new Mets staff. Cora would also be a possibility for Buck Showalter’s staff in Anaheim if Showalter gets the Angels job. Bench coach Eric Chavez was closely tied to ex-GM Billy Eppler, and his future with the organization is murkier.

Mendoza will likely seek a bench coach with major league managing experience.
