Sources: Jacob Toppin won't play with Knicks in 2023 Summer League due to minor injury
As the Knicks continue to piece together their 2023 Las Vegas Summer League Roster, rookie Jacob Toppin will not be part of it.
According to SNY NBA Insider Ian Begley, Toppin – the younger brother of the recently traded Obi Toppin – will not play in Las Vegas due to a minor injury.
A Kentucky product, Toppin was signed to a two-way deal shortly after the 2023 NBA Draft. A 6-foot-9, 206-pound forward, Toppin averaged 12.4 points and 6.8 rebounds for the Wildcats this past season after transferring from the University of Rhode Island.
The Knicks and Pacers agreed to a trade on Saturday that sent Obi Toppin to Indiana for a pair of future second-round picks. By trading the elder Toppin, the Knicks opened up a spot in the rotation for new free agent addition Donte DiVincenzo.
The Knicks are scheduled to play five Summer League games in Vegas between July 7-17, starting on Saturday when they play the Philadelphia 76ers at 5:00 p.m.
