Sources: Warriors free agent Ian Clark agrees to one-year deal with Pelicans

Free-agent guard Ian Clark has agreed to a one-year, $1.6 million deal with the New Orleans Pelicans, league sources told The Vertical.

Clark was one of the top free agents remaining and should be a significant shooting addition for the Pelicans. New Orleans signed guard Rajon Rondo this offseason and had focused on adding a versatile shooter, with Clark emerging as a priority. Jrue Holiday, who re-signed on a four-year deal, is expected to be the starter alongside Rondo in the backcourt.

Clark received strong interest from several teams on the market, but he should have an ideal role alongside a pass-first guard in Rondo and two of the league’s best big men in Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins.

Clark was a backup guard for the NBA champion Golden State Warriors last season. He averaged 6.8 points and 1.2 assists last season while shooting a career high 37.4 percent from 3-point range.

Clark has played four NBA seasons for the Warriors, Denver Nuggets and Utah Jazz. He went undrafted out of Belmont in 2013 and has carved a niche in the league as a sharpshooting combo guard.
