Softball, track, tennis, golf and baseball all represented on this week's list

The Top Performers of the Week have returned for the spring 2024 season.

Each week, we will highlight the top performances from area athletes from the previous week. This week's honorees are from April 1-7.

Softball

Sarita Stevenson, Kynslee Johnson and Emmy Berglund, Watertown — All three players hit home runs in Watertown's 18-2 win over Spearfish on Saturday.

Stevenson had a two-run double to go along with her two-run homer. Berglund's blast plated three runs. Johnson went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Kylee Hoffman and Ayrlie Waldo, Aberdeen Central — The Golden Eagles went 1-3 last week and closed a weekend trip west with an 18-2 loss to Spearfish and a 26-13 win over Rapid City Central.

Waldo went 4-for-5 a double, four runs scored and two RBIs in the win. Hoffman was 3-for-3 with four runs scored and also went 3-for-3 in Friday's loss. Waldo added two hits and two RBIs earlier in the week in a 14-7 loss to Mitchell.

Jade Lund, Kinsley Van Gilder and Alexa Brown, Watertown — The Arrows not only handled Spearfish but also blasted Rapid City Central 19-0 on Friday to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Lund tllied four hits, two doubles, five runs and five RBIs and Van Gilder went 3-for-4 with five runs scored, a triple and two RBIs in the two games.

Brown got both wins on the mound, tossing a one-hitter in one game and a three-hitter in the other with a combined 11 strikeouts.

Sophia and Grace Overland, Mobridge-Pollock — The Overlands helped the Tigers record season-opening wins over Winner on Saturday, 25-10 and 22-1. Sophia went 4-for-5 with seven runs scored and seven RBIs in the two games. Grace not only earned both wins on the mound, she also went 4-for-5 at the plate with five runs scored.

Jacy Netterville and Elsy Larsen, Mobridge-Pollock —Netterville collected four hits, four runs and four RBIs while also hitting a homer in the two wins over Winner. Larsen finishd 5-for-6 with three runs and three RBIs.

Katrina Hagberg and Roxanne Raml, Deuel — The Cardinals outscored Baltic 18-10 behind Raml, who went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Hagberg, who drove in five runs with two doubles and also fired a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts.

Abby Axtell and Zaylee Lantgen, Sioux Valley —The Cossacks kicked off their inaugural season by beating Redfield 7-2. Axtell drove in three runs with a double and a homer. Lantgen added two hits and fanned eight batters while recording the win on the mound.

Jerica Ratigan, Redfield — Ratigan recorded two hits for the Pheasants in the loss to Sioux Valley.

Girls Track: Some of the top returning girls' track and field athletes in Class AA, A and B

Girls Track and Field

Chloe Raw, Arlington — The sprinter dashed to wins in the 100 (12.3) and 200-meter (25.4) dashes in the Scott Underwood Indoor Invite at Brookings.

Madison Hochstetter, Aberdeen Central — Hochstetter kicked off the outdoor portion of the season by winning three individual events Friday in the Huron Invitational. She won the 100-meter hurdles (15.81 seconds), high jump (5-1) and triple jump (35-10.5).

Sadie Johnson, Estelline-Hendricks — Johnson won the pole vault (9-9), long jump (16-1.25) and triple jump (33-5.5) in the Estelline Sno Bird meet.

Halle Bauer and Katherine Prahl, Great Plains Lutheran — Bauer won the 800 run (2:33.64) and 1,600 run (5:39.06) and Prahl the 100 hurdles (16.89) and 300 hurdles (50.11) at Estelline.

Addisyn Heinrich, Warner — Heinrich won the 400 dash (1:04.48) and ran on the winning medley relay at Estelline.

Boys Track and Field

Juven Hudson, Watertown — Hudson led the Arrows in the Huron Invitational by winning the high jump (6-2) ajnd long jump (20-7). Owen Spartz won the pole vault and Boaz Raderschadt the shot put for the Arrows, who also won the 800 and 3,200 relay. Malia Kranz won the discus and the Arrows also won the 800 relay in the girls division.

Jayden Johnson, Milbank — Johnson opened the week by winning the pole vault in the Scott Underwood Indoor Invitational and also took second in the pole vault and ran on the winning medley relay in the Huron Invitational that was held outdoors on Friday.

Samuel Rick, Milbank — Rick won the triple jump (42-5.5) and joined Johnson, Bryan Meyer and James Batchelor on the winning meldey relay (3:51.02) in the Huron Invite.

Kaleb Foltz, Tri-State — Foltz won the 1,600-meter run (4:46.13) and also anchored the winning medley relay in the Estelline Sno Bird meet on Thursday.

Mattix Hausman, Estelline-Hendricks — Competing at home in the Estelline Sno Bird meet, Hausman won the 200 dash (24.2) and 400 dash (53.03).

Gabe Sather, Deuel — Sather took the 110 hurdles (16.14) and pole vault (11-0) at Estelline. The Cardinals swept the team titles in the meet.

Jeron McCreary, Webster Area — McCreary broke the tape in the 300 hurdles (44.19) and also ran on the winning 1,600 relay at Estelline.

Simon Fried, Mobridge-Pollock — Fried won the 300-meter hurdles (41.34 seconds) and long jump (20-3) in the Mobridge-Pollock Early Bird Meet.

Clark-Willow Lake eighth-grader Brynn Roehrich chips to No. 8 Yellow during the final round of the state Class B high school girls golf tournament on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Cattail Crossing Golf Course in Watertown. She finished second in the tourney with a 36-hole total of 156.

Girls Golf

Brynn Roehrich, Clark-Willow Lake — Roehrich kicked off the season by recording a four-shot win in the Class B Classic on Friday at the Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell. She finished with an 85 (42-43).

Boys Golf

Lane Tvedt, Catlewood — Tvedt shot an 82 (42-40) and finished ninth in the Class B Classic on Friday at the Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.

Chet Peterson, Ipswich — Peterson shot an 82 (40-42) and finished 10th in the Class B Classic on Friday at the Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.

Tennis: Duals were the first of the season for Watertown and Sioux Falls Lincoln

Boys Tennis

Curtis Sneden and Evan Meester, Watertown — The Arrows opened by going 3-1 in duals last week, beating Aberdeen Central 8-1 and losing to Sioux Falls Lincoln 9-0 on Thursday. They beat Huron and Pierre each 8-1 on Saturday.

Sneden went 3-1 at No. 1 singles and Meester 3-1 at No. 2 singles. They also combined to go 3-1 at No. 1 doubes.

Justin Remmers, Skyler Stanton and Matthew Bertsch, Watertown — Renners (No. 3), Stanton (No. 5) and Bertsch (No. 6) each also went 3-1 in singles for the Arrows.

Joey Meester and Sam Karst, Watertown — MJeester and Karst went 3-1 at No. 3 doubles for Watertown.

Mika Dannen and Gannon Pederson, Aberdeen Central — The Golden Eagles went 0-4 last week with three 9-0 losses and an 8-1 defeat to Watertown. Dannen and Pederson notched the lone win with a 10-9 (7-3 tiebreaker) victory at No. 2 doubles against the Arrows.

Baseball

Jyler Tharaldsen, Hamlin Area — Hamlin Area went 1-3 in season-opening games, losing to Wayne (Neb.) 10-0 and 18-5 on Tuesday amnd beating Elkton 11-6 and losing to Sioux Valley 14-2 on Sunday. Tharaldsen had four hits, including two doubles, in the doubleheader against Wayne and added three hits, including another double, in the win over Elkton.

Christopher Moberg and Andrew Gunderson, Sioux Valley — The Cossacks beat Elkton 6-2 and Hamlin 14-2 on Sunday with Moberg and Gunderson getting the wins on the mound. Moberg fanned six batters and also had a two-run single against Elkton. Gunderson fired a four-hitter with seven strikeouts against Hamlin.

Jacob Williams and Riggs Prouty, Hamlin Area — Wiliams and Prouty each had two hits and two RBIs in the win over Elkton.

Ethan Axtell, Sioux Valley — Axtell went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs in the win over Hamlin Area.
