SOFTBALL: Claremore routs Bishop Kelley, falls to Pryor

Sep. 12—Monday night brought an impressive display of talent and teamwork as Claremore secured an 11-1 district victory over Bishop Kelley.

Halle Bucktrot was undoubtedly one of the stars of the game, collecting three hits in four at-bats. Her contributions included a pivotal double in the first inning followed by two crucial singles in the fourth and sixth innings, driving in runs and setting the tone for the Lady Zebras' dominant performance.

Jazmine Cookson showcased her pitching prowess by striking out 10 batters during the game, demonstrating control while allowing only three hits, one run and one walk through six innings. Her precision in the circle proved to be a significant factor in the victory.

Claremore wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with Bucktrot's double in the first inning setting the stage for a productive evening.

Cookson's single and Emoree Woody's subsequent single added to the early lead, and the Lady Zebras continued to pour on runs, particularly in the fourth inning when they added four more runs to their tally.

Grace Weaver scored on an Amaeli Foster fly out, and Makenzie McNamara played a pivotal role, hitting a three-RBI double to left field. They weren't finished, though.

Claremore added its final two runs in the sixth inning, with Bucktrot capitalizing on an error by the first baseman and Aubrey Pilgrim doubling to right field, scoring Gabby Garcia and sealing the dominant performance.

McNamara emerged as a standout offensive player, going 2-for-4 at the plate while leading the team with three RBIs. Cookson, Pilgrim, Weaver and Woody also made significant contributions with multiple hits.

Riley Faye and Foster showcased their speed on the basepaths, stealing multiple bases for the Lady Zebras, who amassed a total of six stolen bases.

However, Claremore faced a setback against Pryor on Tuesday night, losing 2-0.

Despite a valiant effort from Cookson, who tossed three strikeouts and allowed four hits and four walks, the Tigerettes ultimately secured the victory. Kayda Wolfe's double to center field in the first innings proved to be the difference-maker.

The Lady Zebras now hold a 12-10 record overall and a 5-2 mark in district, putting them at second in District 5A-3 behind Pryor.
