Softball America lists Auburn as No. 2 seed in preseason bracketology

Auburn softball had a successful end to their 2023 season by forcing the winner-take-all game seven of the Clemson Regional before dropping a 5-1 decision to Valerie Cagle and the home-standing Tigers.

This season, Auburn hopes to build on its momentum by earning a winning record in SEC play for the second straight season, and by earning a favorable bid in the NCAA Tournament.

In its preseason bracketology, Softball America projects Auburn to just miss a host bid. Instead, the publication has Auburn traveling to No. 14 seed Oregon as a two-seed in the Eugene Regional. As a part of this projection, Softball America’s Brady Vernon has the always-tough Michigan Wolverines as the No. 3 seed, and projected Big Sky Conference winner, Idaho State, grabbing the No. 4 seed.

Eleven SEC teams are projected to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament according to Softball America’s preseason projection with Georgia, Tennessee, LSU, Arkansas, Alabama, and South Carolina all forecasted to host a regional. Vernon predicts that Georgia will earn the SEC’s automatic bid as conference champion, and will grab the No. 4 seed.

According to Softball America’s SEC preview, the Tigers are projected to finish No. 9 in the SEC ahead of programs such as Missouri, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State. The low preseason forecast is not a bad thing, however, as Softball America has placed Auburn at No. 20 in its preseason poll.

The Tigers kick off the season Friday at 1 p.m. CT as they host Virginia Tech on day one of the Tiger Invitational at Jane B. Moore Field.
