Soccer roundup: Harbor, Boyne City advance; Charlevoix closes up 2024

CHARLEVOIX — It’s been said too many many times over: The postseason is a whole different season.

Still, the Charlevoix girls’ soccer team took a hard lesson of that in their Division 4 district soccer opener Thursday.

Hosting Suttons Bay at Charlevoix High School, the Rayders fell in a 2-1 final against the Norsemen after previously twice beating Suttons Bay earlier this season.

Charlevoix picked up victories of 3-1 and 3-0, both at home and on the road, against Suttons Bay, but the playoffs again proved to be a whole different story.

The loss closed out a 7-7-1 season overall for Charlevoix, along with a 4-5-1 mark within the Lake Michigan Conference.

Charlevoix senior Ava Boss and the Rayders closed up their season with a loss the third time around against Suttons Bay Thursday.

For Suttons Bay (15-4-1), the win advanced them into a Division 4 district semifinal against Leland (15-2-2) on Tuesday, May 28 at Elk Rapids.

Division 4

Harbor Springs 5, Glen Lake 2

GLEN LAKE — Do the Rams have another run in them?

Those wearing Harbor Springs orange and black along the sidelines, in the stands and on the field sure hope so.

Up against a strong Glen Lake team Thursday in the opening round of their Division 4 district Thursday, the Rams put together a big second half to take a 5-2 final and advance within the postseason.

“We had a challenging first half since two of our starting seniors were out for the game, but managed to come back in the second half with more shots on goal, hustling on the backline to prevent them from scoring,” Harbor coach Aaron Riley said.

Stefi Reskevics and the Harbor Springs girls kept an opportunity for a fourth straight district title alive with a win Thursday on the road against Glen Lake.

The win comes following back to back runs to the regional finals in the previous two postseasons for the Rams and on the heels of three straight district titles.

It’s a challenging road ahead now, as they’ll move into a D4 regional semifinal against Elk Rapids and at Elk Rapids on Tuesday, May 28. Harbor also moved to 7-10-3 overall on the year.

On Thursday night, Fran Warren scored a pair of goals, while Julia Clarke, Lily Barnadyn and Stefi Reskevics all scored one.

Harbor will meet the Elks at 7 p.m. Tuesday, following a matchup between Leland and Suttons Bay at 5 p.m., also in Elk Rapids.

“We're excited to see the girls work hard together as a team to advance to the second round of districts next week in Elk Rapids,” added Riley.
