Soccer: No. 4 Bullard girls shutout No. 16 Athens, 3-0

Feb. 15—ATHENS — The Bullard Lady Panthers proved deserving of their lofty ranking Tuesday night at Bruce Field in Athens by blanking the No. 16-ranked Lady Hornets, 3-0.

The No. 4-ranked Lady Panthers moved to 14-1-0, 7-0 with the win, while the Lady Hornets now own an 11-3-3, 6-1 record.

Addy Cummings scored the first goal of the evening when she maneuvered around an Athens defender and the Lady Hornet goal keeper, who was playing up in the box, to put Bullard in front, 1-0, at the 30 minute mark of the first half.

About 10:00 later, Paige Barrett received a pass from Rylie Jo Garner from the right side and shot the ball off of the post. Barrett was able to collect a rebound on the shot and subsequently put the ball into the net.

Bullard capped off its scoring with about 29:00 left in regulation when Garner got the ball past the Athens keeper by way of a header. Anna Sowers was credited with an assist on the play.

Bullard head girl's soccer coach Tiffany Cooksey noted the quality defensive effort recorded by Landry Bighorse.

"I'm proud of the girls for keeping the shutout on the night," Cooksey said.

Bullard also won the junior varsity match by a 2-0 margin.

The Lady Panther varsity will visit Van Tuesday while the junior varsity squad hosts the Lady Vandals. Both matches will get under way at 7:15 p.m.
