Soaked: Timber Creek, rainstorm combine to end Creekside's baseball season

First, Timber Creek cooled off Creekside's bats. Then, weather extinguished the Knights' championship hopes.

Amid a second rain delay that drenched the field in Orlando, umpires called the Florida High School Athletic Association Region 1-7A baseball final in the fifth inning as a 3-0 win for Timber Creek to end Creekside's year.

Timber Creek (24-6), seeded first in the region, advances to Friday's FHSAA semifinals in Fort Myers. Rollins-committed senior pitcher Connor Mulready threw a four-hit shutout for the Wolves, striking out six.

The winning streak stopped at five for Creekside, which had beaten Lake Mary 6-4 last Friday.

The Knights (19-11) had opportunities throughout the evening but couldn't take advantage, leaving at least one runner on base in every inning and stranding two in the first. First basebman Adam Harvey went 2 for 2 and third baseman Parker Morton reached in all three plate appearances.

Timber Creek moved in front in the first inning when Brian Kendall's double scored Bryce Reddick. Outfielder Zach Walker produced the other two Timber Creek runs, on an RBI single in the second and a sacrifice fly in the fourth.

Rainstorms delayed the start and then picked up again during the middle of the fifth, beyond the threshold needed for the game to become official. The teams waited to see whether the conditions would abate, but with the field ruled unplayable, the game was called in Timber Creek's favor.

In Class 5A, Clay's scheduled regional championship against Tallahassee Lincoln was rained out Monday.

The Leon County School District closed all schools Tuesday because of expected severe weather in Tallahassee, leaving the scheduling of the Clay-Lincoln game uncertain.
