Snap Count Takeaways: Major notes from Oregon’s usage report vs. USC
At this point in the college football season, with just two regular season games left on the schedule before the postseason potentially arrives, it’s not common that we look at usage reports from games and find many things that we didn’t already know.
With 10 games down, we have a good idea of what the rotation looks like on both offense and defense, and who the guys are that get called upon in the biggest moments of the game. When you’re playing important football in November, you need to have those guys that you know you can rely on.
For the Oregon Ducks, that’s certainly the case, and the usage report reflects that this week after a win over the USC Trojans on Saturday. Let’s take a dive into the snap counts and see what we can take away from them:

It’s been interesting to see the playing time drop a bit for both LB Bryce Boettcher and LB Devon Jackson over the past several weeks, notably since Jestin Jacobs returned to the lineup for the Ducks.
In the first five games, Boettcher was averaging 24 snaps per game, while Jackson was averaging 22. In the last five games, though, Boettcher is down to 14 snaps per game, while Jackson is at 6 per game over the last three weeks that he’s been healthy.
Takeaway: Really Solid CB Depth

The Ducks got hit with some injuries at the CB spot this past week, and while none of them appear to be major, it did offer an opportunity for the depth at the position to shine through.
A total of six CBs saw time on Saturday, and for the most part, the defense held up incredibly well throughout the contest. At this point in the season, we have more than enough evidence that the Ducks’ secondary is deep and capable of holding up when depth is needed.
