Will Skyy Moore be Chiefs’ top rookie in fantasy football?

Could Kansas City Chiefs WR Skyy Moore be the team’s top rookie producer in fantasy football this season?

Every season there are several rookies that make an immediate impact in fantasy, but the Chiefs haven’t exactly had a lot of top producers. This year, things might be different for Kansas City. Our friends at Draft Wire recently named Moore as one of the top rookies to target in fantasy football. Here is what Luke Easterling had to say about him:

“After trading away Tyreek Hill, the Chiefs selected Moore in the second round of this year’s draft, giving them a potential replacement for Hill’s explosiveness and big-play ability. While new signings like Marquez Valdes-Scantling and JuJu Smith-Schuster will get their share of targets, and Mecole Hardman will continue to have a big role, Moore has the potential to quickly become Patrick Mahomes’ new favorite target.”

It’s natural with Tyreek Hill’s departure to look to the new guys, especially those taken in the draft to pick up the slack. The only problem is that Andy Reid’s offense is notorious for being difficult for rookie receivers to pick up right away. DeSean Jackson (Eagles, 2008) was the most productive rookie receiver under Reid, with over 1,000 yards from scrimmage and three scores. In Kansas City, the most productive rookie wideout was Hill, who had 860 scrimmage yards and nine scores as a rookie.

The Huddle’s early projections had Moore as the No. 50th ranked receiver, with a projected stat line of 52 receptions for 720 yards and five touchdowns. That was optimistic as it’s well above the average of a rookie receiver in Reid’s offense over the years. His current projections are more on-par with those numbers with 40 receptions, 560 yards and three touchdowns.

If not Moore, then who else for Kansas City? Undrafted free agent WR Justyn Ross is someone who has been on the radar early on. Seventh-round rookie RB Isiah Pacheco has to beat out some veterans for playing time, but we know that he has game-breaking speed as the fastest RB at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine. All of that said, Moore has been working to get his chemistry down with Patrick Mahomes after missing some of OTAs with a hamstring injury.
