Sixers expected to be among top suitors for Raptors guard Kyle Lowry

The Philadelphia 76ers are in the process of figuring out what the next step is after a tough Game 7 home loss in Round 2 of the playoffs and there are only so many ways they can upgrade the roster.

The Sixers do not have a lot of money to spend in free agency, but there is a way to add to the team in that capacity. While Philadelphia only has minimum contracts and the $5.9 million taxpayer mid-level exception to use in free agency, they can always do a sign-and-trade and send out salary to match the deal.

One option is Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry who the Sixers were looking to acquire at the trade deadline, but a deal fell apart. However, the Sixers are not giving up on the Villanova product just yet with the veteran entering free agency.

Per Shams Charania of The Athletic and The Stadium, the Sixers will be among the top suitors for Lowry once free agency opens up on Aug. 2:

The 76ers, Lakers, Mavericks, Pelicans and Heat are expected to be top suitors for Raptors free agent guard Kyle Lowry, sources said.

The Sixers will have to send some salary to the Raptors to make any Lowry deal happen, but it would be a risk that president Daryl Morey will have to think hard about. While Lowry would probably be a big help for the Sixers at the moment, he is also 35-years old and he is coming off a season where he played in only 46 games.
