Siena Heights volleyball opens season with pair of sweeps

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Siena Heights volleyball team opened the season and play in the Keiser Invitational with a pair of sweeps against Life and Rust.

The Saints took the opener against Life, 25-20, 25-20, 25-23, before topping Rust, 25-10, 25-16, 25-10.

Olivia Norman had 12 kills and five blocks in the opening match while Aubrey Bates directed the attack with 25 assists while adding five kills of her own, four digs, four digs and three blocks. Payton Osborne had 14 digs, three assists and an ace while Jessica Holsapple had four aces and two assists to go with nine digs.

SHU dominated Rust, allowing its depth to shine as five different hitters had at least five kills with Lenawee Christian graduate, freshman Isabelle Kirkendall, and Cailynn Sullivan each leading with nine. Kirkendall added two blocks while Sullivan had one.

Tecumseh graduate, junior Lyndsey Benschoter, had 20 assists, three kills, two digs and a block while Bates had 16 assists, four digs, three aces and two kills. Taylor Wegener and Osborne each had 10 digs with Wegner adding five kills and an ace.
