Premier League legend Alan Shearer reckons there is only one winner in the Paul Pogba vs Jose Mourinho battle.

The start to Manchester United’s season – their third under Mourinho – has been dominated by Pogba and Mourinho’s feud.

Mourinho’s comments as a pundit during the World Cup angered Pogba and soured a relationship that was already difficult.

Then, despite Mourinho handing him the captaincy against Leicester and praising him post-match, Pogba made his feelings clear by saying if he ‘spoke the truth’ he would be ‘fined’.

Writing in his Coral column, Shearer said he only sees one winner if Mourinho continues to take on the players at Old Trafford.

“There seems to be an on-going battle between Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba at Manchester United and it does not appear to be going away,” Shearer said.

“Most of the time in this situation, the players win the battle as Jose Mourinho knows as he has experience of this at Chelsea.

“If Jose does try to take on too many players at United, I would not be surprised if the same thing happens again.

“Conte came in at Chelsea with virtually the same team and won the league.

“Whether you like it or not, the players have all the power in the game now and inevitably they end up winning when there is an argument like this.”
