Shake Milton feels like he can attack defenses in transition for Sixers

CAMDEN, N.J.–The Philadelphia 76ers are so focused on pushing the pace on the offensive end as they look to take advantage of the talent they have on the roster in order to have that success on offense. To begin their homestand, they have been much better on offense as they have scored 133, 131, and 123 points in the first three games.

A big reason for that has been the play of Joel Embiid and what he is able to do on that end of the floor, but the Sixers are getting strong play from the guards as the pace continued to be pushed.

Shake Milton has scored in double figures in two straight games and it’s due to his aggressiveness in transition and being able to go at his defenders.

“Obviously, one guy and I feel like I can attack,” said Milton. “Sometimes, defenses do a good job of loading up so they kind of take away those driving lanes, but yeah, if I see one, I’m pretty much going.”

Having James Harden back on the floor has been a big help to this team on the offensive end as they have been able to play with the pace they’re looking for. Pace doesn’t necessarily mean fast break, but as long as they push the ball ahead and get into their sets quickly, they will have success.

“We’ve been working on just keeping our pace up at all times,” Milton added. “Trying to get the ball across half court at a certain time on the shot clock and just being aggressive. You know what I’m saying? Catching the defense lacking and being able to put pressure on them is what’s going to help our offense out a lot.”

Getting everybody on the same page with the pace thing has been a battle for Philadelphia, but the Sixers seem like they have begun to really get that down. The play of the starting unit combined with what Milton brings off the bench is a big help.

“It took us a while and that’s part of the pace we talk about is just getting the ball up,” Milton finished. “As soon as the defense score or we get a rebound, just look ahead. It doesn’t matter who it is, try to put pressure on the defense, and good things happen for our offense. Whether you get into the lane, or you can kick out 3, something good is happening.”
