Tyson Miller, a Shadow Hills High School graduate, did something Wednesday no other desert athlete has ever done: He played for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Miller, who was traded to the Dodgers organization from the Brewers earlier this month, was called up from Triple A Oklahoma City on Wednesday morning and pitched in the afternoon game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Miller, the right-handed reliever who has also played Major League games for the Cubs, Rangers and Brewers during his three-year career, was called on to start the seventh inning Wednesday with the Dodgers trailing 6-1. He pitched a perfect seventh inning, getting the Blue Jays 1-2-3 with two flyouts and a pop-out.

The eighth inning didn't go as smoothly. Whit Merrifield led off with a single and then Miller induced a strikeout and flyout for two quick outs, but Cavan Biggio singled and George Springer walked to load the bases. Bo Bichette, one of the top hitters in the American League, ripped a single to score two runs. Springer was thrown out at third on the play to end the inning.

So Miller's final line was 2.0 innings pitched, two earned runs, three hits, one strikeout and one walk. The Dodgers lost 8-1.

Miller is one of only eight desert high school products to play in the Major Leagues and on Wednesday became the first to play for the hometown favorite Dodgers. Only Miller and his former Shadow Hills teammate Taylor Ward, an outfielder for the Angels, are currently in the Major Leagues, though the Palm Desert High trio of Brooks Krikse, Jeremiah Estrada and Brian Serven have all played in the big leagues this season.
