Sergio Garcia's daughter has the perfect golf name

Sergio Garcia spent most of his career at odds with Augusta. But it’s amazing what winning a green jacket will do for a relationship.

Garcia won the Masters last year in a memorable duel with Justin Rose, marking the end of his career-long tenure as “best golfer never to win a major.” He later got married to his longtime girlfriend Angela Akins, and joked that he would do it wearing his green jacket. And now, he and Akins have welcomed their first child, a daughter, and given her the perfect name to honor Augusta: Azalea.

Little Azalea Garcia was born at 1:54 a.m. on March 14, just hours after Sergio hosted a Masters conference call from an Austin, Texas hospital room. “It has been an eventful morning,” Garcia said Tuesday. “About an hour and a half ago, Angela’s water broke, so we are at the hospital right now.”

Soon afterward:

Azaleas are, of course, the pink flowers whose color adorns Augusta every spring. It’s also the name of the 13th hole, where Garcia salvaged a memorable par from the pine straw to help keep pace with Rose and eventually win the Masters. He’ll return this year with a wife and child in tow. Amazing the difference a year makes.
