See which Topeka-area girls wrestlers qualified for the KSHSAA state tournament

The top girls wrestlers from around the state competed in regional tournaments on Saturday. The top four wrestlers from each weight class qualified for this year's state tournament.

The state meet will be held from Feb. 22-24 and many Topeka-area wrestlers will represent their schools at the final tournament of the season.

Here are the results from Saturday's regional tournament action.

Class 6A-5A Regional A

Shawnee Heights dominated the regional tournament, which was hosted by Bonner Springs, as it won the team title with 210 points.

The Thunderbirds qualified 10 wrestlers for the state tournament: Connie Burns (105 pounds), Odessa Schmidt (110), Isabel Reyes (130), Madison Freeland (135), Olivia Stevens (140) and Theo Ofuasia (235) all finished in first place in their weight classes. Joining their teammates at state will be Addison Cooper (120), Reece Taylor (125), McKenna Haltom (145) and Cianna Graves (155).

Seaman qualified six wrestlers for the state tournament. Taylie Heston (120) and Abagail Soppe (190) won their weight classes to highlight the day for the Vikings. Ellie Ayres (100), Natalie Smith (110), Vanessa Scott (115) and Koti Best (130) qualified for the state meet, too.

Highland Park will be represented by one wrestler at the state meet. Mercedes Garcia (145) finished in fourth place.

Class 6A-5A Regional C

Washburn Rural came away as the team champion of their regional, which was hosted by Junction City. The Junior Blues scored 227 points — 68 more points than second-place Kapaun Mt. Carmel.

Washburn Rural had four wrestlers win their weight classes: Molly Spader (105), Laiken Clark (135), Fatima Escobar (145) and TeAni Rhoten (170) finished atop the podium.

Those four wrestlers will be joined by six of their teammates at state with Kamiryn Clark (100), Maddy Blow (115), Lacey Middleton (120), Annie Gallegos (125), Madison Blanco (130) and Elia Smith (190) all qualifying.

Topeka High and Topeka West did not advance anyone to the state meet.

Class 4-3-2-1A Region C

Rossville qualified four wrestlers after a great performance in the Sabetha-hosted regional. Kendra Hurla’s undefeated season continues as she won the individual title in the 120-pound weight class. Now 34-0, she will try to become the first four-time state champion in KSHSAA history.

Joining Hurla at the state meet will be Keera Lacock (115), Madelyn Wonnell (145) and Hailey Horton (155).

Hayden’s Elaina Wolff (100) is the lone wrestler for the Wildcats to qualify after she finished.

Silver Lake will send one wrestler to the state tournament as Karley Holmes (110) finished fourth for the Eagles.
