How to see Phillip Fulmer, David Cutcliffe, Watson Brown speak before 2023 SEC media days

With SEC Football Media Days coming to Nashville July 17, local sports media personality George Plaster will shift the focus of his speakers series to college football.

The panel will include former Tennessee coach and athletics director Phillip Fulmer; former Duke and Ole Miss coach David Cutcliffe, who was a longtime UT assistant; former Vanderbilt coach Watson Brown and longtime college football reporter Tony Barnhart.

It will take place July 16 at 5 p.m. at Ford Ice Center Bellevue and the public is invited to attend at no charge.

"We'll get into football scheduling because it's obvious the SEC is just going to keep delaying it because they can't agree on anything," Plaster said. "The transfer portal and NIL will obviously be in there, but also discussion of what does it take to win a national title? Fulmer and Cutcliffe have both experienced it and that's one of the advantages to having them."

Cutcliffe was hired in March as a special assistant to the SEC commissioner for football relations.

Barnhart is close to releasing a new book which he will talk about.

Plaster and Brown, who also coached at Rice, Cincinnati, UAB, Austin Peay and Tennessee Tech, host a daily podcast 2-4 p.m. from Ford Ice Center.

This will be the third installment in the speakers series Plaster started in April with Predators general manager Barry Trotz. The second installement was with Vanderbilt athletics director Candice Storey Lee.

"This one's going to be different obviously because it's going to have more guests," Plaster said. "And this is such a high-profile deal I think we're going to have a packed crowd."

There will be an opportunity for those in attendance to ask questions.

Anyone interested in attending should reserve a spot by emailing Plaster at plastergeorge@gmail.com.

Franklin's Jackson Boone claimed his third consecutive win Sunday night at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in the featured pro late model division.

Boone started on the pole but was in third place late in the race. He overcame Lebanon's Dawson Sutton with 20 laps to go and finally took the lead from Gladeville's Hunter Wright, who had been in front for more than 90 laps, near the end.

Boone, who won the 2019 championship, also won May 13 and June 10. Wright, who maintained his lead in the points standings, won April 15.

Boone also ran in the North/South Super Late Model Challenge at the fairgrounds that night and was in the lead with eight laps to go before his radiator hose started to leak. That took him out of contention. Jake Garcia, who competes in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, went on to win the race co-sanctioned by the ASA Southern Super Series and ASA/CRA Super Series.
