See the latest class of inductees headed into the Greater Lansing Sports Hall of Fame

One of the most decorated area girls basketball players in history is among the latest class of individuals slated to get inducted into the Greater Lansing Sports Hall of Fame.

Former Lansing Christian standout Tiffanie Shives, who was the state’s Miss Basketball and Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior in 2004, is among the individuals in a class who will be inducted in August.

The other individuals in this year’s class includesChris Henderson, Kelly Holland, Molly Peterman, Tony Trierweiler, Roge’t Ware, Roger Wing and media personalities Fred Heumann and Mike Griffith.

The teams being inducted are the 1991 East Lansing football state championship squad and the Laingbsurg softball squad that won the 1978 state title.

Henderson is one of the most decorated wrestlers in Sexton history and was a three-time state champion in the late 1980s. Holland, a Waverly graduate, was a decorated golfer and won the 1984 state title.

Peterman was a basketball standout at Eastern who went on to play at Detroit Mercy and then professionally.

Trierweiler was a decorated baseball player and was considered one of the top hitters to come out of Greater Lansing. He went on to shine at Ferris. Ware was a track standout and three-time state champion in the 110 high hurdles at Sexton from 1985-87. Wing is a decorated car racer and is part of the Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Fame.

Heumann has been a long time broadcaster in the area and worked at both WILX and WLNS. Griffith is a Mason grad who has been nationally recognized as a sports writer.

Laingsburg became the second area softball team to win an MHSAA softball state title and claimed its championship a year after DeWitt became the first.

East Lansing won the 1991 Class A state title under the direction of legendary coach Jeff Smith.
