Sectional wrestling: See who advanced to next week's District 10 Class 2A tournament

MEADVILLE — What’s sweeter than three sectional wrestling championships?

Four, of course. Three, however, isn’t bad either.

Fort LeBoeuf captured its third District 10 sectional championship in the past four years Saturday when it won the Class 2A Section 1 crown at Meadville. JoJo Przybycien, meanwhile, won his fourth as an individual, capturing the 160-pound title.

LeBoeuf’s 221.5 team points bested 202 by Corry and 201.5 by General McLane, while North East (162.5) and Titusville (159) rounded out the top five. The Bison crowned three individual champions and held off a consolation scoring surge by their challengers to remain kings of the north.

“It’s very exciting to come in here and win the sectional tournament, especially this year, being down three starters and having three guys fill in,” said Fort LeBoeuf head coach Shane McChesney. “I’m really proud of those guys.”

Przybycien’s 160-pound victory came between finals triumphs from Jackson Bowers at 145 pounds and John Duran at 285. Now one of two active, four-time sectional champs (Conneaut’s Hunter Gould), winning this tournament has become routine for Przybycien.

At 160 pounds, Fort LeBoeuf High School's Jojo Przybycien, top, defeated General McLane's Hudson Spires 5-0 to win the District 10 Class 2A Section 1 title at Meadville Area Senior High School in Meadville on Saturday.

“I’ve been here before; been through it all,” said Przybycien, a senior. “I’ve been on the highest stage there is in Hershey and this isn’t really anything to get nervous about. Either way, I made it on to districts.”

Corry, McLane, North East crown multiple champs

Corry and North East matched LeBoeuf with three champions each while General McLane crowned two.

Steven Willis won by fall for Corry at 121 pounds before Will Allen (139) and Mason Savitz (172) each won by decision. Rocky Kowle (114), Kyler See (127) and Cyrus Hurd (133) each won for North East, which produced a finalist at five consecutive weights from 114 to 139.

Chiesa wins at 107

Northwestern junior Sierra Chiesa – the only female at the tournament – made her season debut at 107 pounds, where she made history at last year’s PIAA meet.

At 107 pounds, Northwestern High School's Sierra Chiesa, left, defeated Corry's Wyatt Swan 6-2 to win the District 10 Class 2A Section 1 title at Meadville Area Senior High School in Meadville on Saturday.

Like she did a year ago, Chiesa won the 107-pound class. The second seed, Chiesa beat Corry’s Wyatt Swan by 6-2 decision in the finals after pinning Union City’s Van Ward in the semis.

She’ll now try to defend her D-10 title at next weekend’s Class 2A meet at Sharon.

The top seven finishers at each weight advanced from sectionals to districts.
