Onward goes the lacrosse season into Saturday’s state quarterfinal round.

Eight teams from Section V — four boys, four girls — take on the Section VI champs in their respective classes and this year, it’s the Section V boys playing the home games after traveling to the Buffalo area last spring.

The Section V girls hit the road to play their quarterfinal games at Clarence High and it’s there that the Section V girls hope to continue their dominance in this round.

Here’s what you need to know for Saturday for the Section V champs and who, when and where they’re playing.

Class A: Lancaster (11-5) vs. No. 7 Pittsford (17-2), 10 a.m.

Class B: No. 18 Orchard Park (16-3) vs. No. 1 Victor (17-2), 12:30 p.m.

Class C: No. 11 Lake Shore/Silver Creek (16-1) vs. No. 12 Honeoye Falls-Lima (14-4), 3 p.m.

Class D: East Aurora (14-4) vs. No. 6 Penn Yan (12-7), 5:30 p.m.

A look at Section VI

Lancaster brings an interesting scenario into the Class A game against Pittsford. The Legends are coming off a 22-0 win in their Class A final after losing their regular-season finale to Class D Aquinas. Lancaster has posted some impressive wins in Section VI, but it hasn’t been enough to get the attention of the New York State Sports Writers Association poll, which doesn’t include Lancaster in the latest state rankings.

In Class B, Orchard Park played four Section V teams this spring and went 1-3 in beating Fairport but losing to Canandaigua, Penfield and Pittsford. So all three losses for the Quakers this spring are against Section V but their strength may be in goal with Jack Lucidi and defenseman Sullivan O’Brien.

In Class C, the Eagles of Lake Shore/Silver Creek have just one loss and that was to Spencerport on May 6. But they did beat Penn Yan, in overtime, on May 13, which is part of a nine-game win streak.

East Aurora has won six straight after winning Thursday’s Section VI title and is somewhat familiar with Section V. The Blue Devils lost to Spencerport and Honeoye Falls-Lima in mid-April.

Girls lacrosse

Class B: Clarence (16-3) vs. Victor (14-4), 11 a.m.

The Fairport offense gets a lot of credit, but the defense deserves plenty of its own.

Last season’s state quarterfinals was an extension of Section V’s dominance as the Section V not only swept all four games at Pittsford Sutherland, but all four games employed a running clock.

It’s an impressive streak of dominance that goes back to the 2008 season when Lancaster beat Rush-Henrietta, marking the last time a Section VI girls team beat Section V.

In the 12 seasons since, Section V is 40-0 vs. Section VI.

In Class A, the Lancaster girls have three losses by a cumulative five goals but are averaging 17 goals a game this season.

Clarence in Class B put up some big wins early in the season but has played some tight games down the stretch so the Red Devils are ready for just about anything.

In Class C, Lake Shore is averaging an impressive 17 goals per game and has four wins by single digits. The other 15 games have been decided by 10 or more goals.

Eden caught fire at the right time to win its second straight Section VI title. The Raiders have won three straight and five of six since being shut out, 18-0, on May 8 against Clarence.
