New section, no problem for Cannon Falls, which has reached the Section 4-2A title game

Oct. 28—NORWOOD YOUNG AMERICA, Minn. — Cannon Falls didn't face a Section 4, Class 2A opponent at all during the eight-game high school football regular season.

Section 4-2A opponents are learning first-hand what the Bombers are about in the playoffs.

The Bombers continue to pile up yards and points, no matter who is across from them or where they're playing, and now they're one win away from returning to the Class 2A state tournament.

Cannon Falls ran for 448 yards Saturday en route to a 52-30 victory against No. 7-ranked Norwood Young America in the Section 4, Class 2A semifinals. The unranked and third-seeded Bombers (8-2 overall) will face either top-seeded St. Agnes or fourth-seeded Randolph at 7 p.m. Friday at Watertown-Mayer in the Section 4-2A championship game.

NYA (8-1) entered the state allowing just 9.9 points per game.

Cannon Falls eclipsed that mark 6 minutes, 10 seconds into the game.

The Bombers received scoring runs from Dylan Banks (51 yards), Preston Schoenfelder (49 yards), August Wagner (2 yards) and Banks again (2 yards), as well as a 9-yard pass from Jack Meyers to Sam Shepersky to build a double-digit halftime lead, 30-14.

Cannon Falls kept its foot on the gas in the second half, when Banks scored twice more (2, 16 yards) and Shepersky scored on a 25-yard run.

The Bombers, who beat Maple Lake 33-6 in a section quarterfinal game Tuesday, had nearly a 2-to-1 advantage in total yards, 420-220.

Banks nearly outgained NYA himself, rushing 26 times for 212 yards and three touchdowns. Schoenfelder added 93 yards on nine carries.
