Season on the hardwood is at hand

Nov. 10—Basketball fans in the area are award that the girls season on the hardwood is already underway.

Greensburg has opened the season with wins over Class A No. 9 Jac-Cen-Del and North Decatur. The Lady Pirates will get a good test Friday, traveling to 2-0 Franklin. Greensburg is currently No. 10 in Class 3A. Franklin is No. 16 in Class 4A.

South Decatur has also started 2-0 with wins over Milan and Southwestern (Shelby). The Lady Cougars face country rival North Decatur Nov. 18 at North and then host North Jan. 4.

The other three girls teams started 1-1. Batesville defeated Hauser and fell to New Palestine. North Decatur knocked off Lawrenceburg and was defeated by Greensburg. Rushville opened with a win over New Castle before falling at Class 2A No. 4 Eastern Hancock.

BOYS

The boys teams are still getting set for the season openers. One of those early season games has already been rescheduled.

North Decatur was to host Greensburg Nov. 21. Due to the success of the Chargers on the football field, the game as been rescheduled for Feb. 20. Depending on the outcome of Friday's football regional at Sheridan, North's schedule could be adjusted again.

With the Pirates and Chargers game moved to February, Greensburg is now scheduled to open Nov. 25 at home against Yorktown. That starts four straight home games to start the season for the Pirates with Batesville Dec. 1, Triton Central Dec. 8 and Jennings County Dec. 12. Greensburg's first road game is Dec. 16 at EIAC foe Franklin County.

Coach Shaun Busick enter his first year leading the Pirates. He has coached 31 years with an overall record of 436-250.

At this time, North's opener will be at South Decatur Dec. 1. The Chargers are on the road the next three games at South Ripley Dec. 2, at Edinburgh Dec. 8 and at Oldenburg Academy Dec. 9. North's first home game will be against Cambridge City Lincoln Dec. 14.

South Decatur is set to open the season on the road Nov. 21 at Trinity Lutheran. Maurice Buckner is in his first year as the Cougars' head coach. Trinity Lutheran also has a first year coach in Mike Lang. After the Cougars host North on Dec. 1, South travels to Milan Dec. 8 and hosts Jac-Cen-Del Dec. 9.

Batesville is scheduled to open the season at home Nov. 25 against Jac-Cen-Del. Batesville's next three games will be on the road — at Greensburg Dec. 1, at Lawrenceburg Dec. 8 and at Southwestern (Hanover) Dec. 9.

Rushville opens the season Nov. 22 at Shelbyville with Coach Kerry Brown returning to the Lions' sideline. The Lions travel to Connersville (Coach Brown's former program) Dec. 1 and to New Palestine Dec. 2. Rushville's home opener is set for Dec. 8 against Franklin County.
