Seahawks re-sign QB Davis; reportedly still considering Kaepernick

Quarterback Austin Davis re-signed with the Seattle Seahawks on Monday, but the team is reportedly still weighing the option of adding Colin Kaepernick to the depth chart behind All-Pro Russell Wilson.

Davis, 28, will make $780,000 for 2018 and joins Stephen Morris, who signed with the team Friday amidst speculation Seattle could add Kaepernick, as Wilson's backups on the current roster.

Both Davis and Morris have experience under new offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. Davis played for the St. Louis Rams from 2012-14 with Schottenheimer as offensive coordinator.

Morris, 25, worked under Schottenheimer when he was quarterbacks coach in 2016 with the Colts.

Kaepernick's meeting with the Seahawks was postponed last week. The Seattle Times reported the two sides are still planning to get together and discuss a contract, but there are many factors to be considered from the team's perspective.

Kaepernick has an active lawsuit against the NFL after he went unsigned all of last season. Seahawks general manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll were reportedly deposed as part of the suit. Kaepernick met with the Seahawks last offseason but Seattle's interest never reached the contract negotiations phase.

Kaepernick asserts in the suit that NFL owners colluded to keep him out of the league based on his social activism positions, which included kneeling during the national anthem prior to games to bring attention to police brutality and racial inequality.

In his one year out of the league, Kaepernick has been keenly involved in fundraising and organized philanthropic efforts.

ESPN reported last week the Seahawks were not comfortable signing Kaepernick without knowing his "plan" with respect to protests during the 2018 NFL season.
