Seahawks overcome mistakes; defeat Giants 24-7

In what was predicted to be a cakewalk of a game for the Seahawks against the Giants, mistakes made the game closer than it should have been. But Seattle overcame the mistakes to defeat the Giants 24-7 at MetLife Stadium to move to 4-2 on the season.

Seattle’s offense was very lackluster in the first half, racking up multiple penalties and dropped passes. Seattle also had an eight-minute drive at the end of the first quarter, which included ten plays with goal-to-go, but were unable to score any points after Jimmy Graham dropped a would-have-been touchdown on fourth down.

However, the defense was lights out the entire game, holding the Giants (1-6) to only 177 total yards. With both of their starting receivers injured, the Giants have been relying on their run game to carry the offense. But the Seattle defense, who has not been great at stopping the run this season, held the Giants to only 46 rushing yards.

Without a run game, it forced Eli Manning to throw to his inexperienced receivers. Without that much chemistry, the passing game struggled. Seattle held Manning to only 19/39 passing for 134 yards and a touchdown. The Giants inability to move the football forced their defense to be on the field for most of the game, with Seattle dominating the time of possession.

After halftime, the Seattle offense was able to get the ball rolling. Seattle scored 24 unanswered points, including 21 points coming in the second half. Russell Wilson led the charge, throwing for 334 yards and three touchdowns on 27/39 passing. He found his deep ball accuracy, throwing a 22-yard touchdown to Doug Baldwin and a 38-yard touchdown to Paul Richardson. Wilson was also able to find Graham in the endzone at the end of the game for a one-yard touchdown, with Graham making up for his earlier dropped touchdown.

The Seahawks continued to have trouble running the ball, rushing for 104 yards on 31 carries for an average of 3.4 yards per carry. Thomas Rawls led the way with 11 carries for 36 yards. But even with these struggles, Seattle gained 425 yards of total offense.

The Seahawks will look to continue their three-game win streak when they return to CenturyLink Field to play the Houston Texans (3-3) on October 29th at 1:05 p.m. PST.
