Seacoast roundup: Winnacunnet field hockey beats Exeter; rivals tie in boys soccer

EXETER – Hayden Adams, Maddy Garrant and Fiona McAfee each scored a goal as the Winnacunnet High School field hockey team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over rival Exeter on Friday.

Winnacunnet is now 5-3 in Division I, while Exeter, the two-time defending Division I state champions, is 7-2.

“Always a great game with Exeter,” Winnacunnet head coach Heidi Hand said. “We played as a true team and really stepped up with hustle and passion. Proud of my girls today, they never backed down.”

KINGSTON - Rowynn Pickering, Cindy Han, Maggie Aldous, Alaina Pryzbilsky, and Nora Rogers all scored for Oyster River (6-2) in this Division II win.

Gray/New Gloucester 0

YORK, Maine – Bella Santini scored for York in this Class B South win. Nya Avery assisted on the game-winner.

Emma Joyce and Sophia Luchette both played well for the Wildcats.

EXETER – The Warriors grabbed an early lead on Zane Lepere’s goal off a corner kick by Tim Kollmorgen.

Exeter's Dylan Drunsic tied the match. Winnacunnet goalie Tyler Blank had six saves. Winnacunnet is now 4-3-2.

Traip Academy 5

North Yarmouth Academy 0

KITTERY, Maine - Adrian Cunningham and Israel Gonzales both scored two goals, and Quinn Alessi had one as Traip (6-1) earned this Class C South win.

Ivan Blanco had two assists for the Rangers, and Riley McGovern had one. Traip goalie Jack Down had two saves, earning the shutout.

SOMERSWORTH – Somersworth goalie Nahum Yoder had 15 saves in this Division IV loss.

Zephaniah Grandmaison and Freddie Andrian both played well in defeat for the Hilltoppers.

DOVER – Maddie Karsonovich’s three goals led St. Thomas to this Division III win.

Elizabeth Flynn also scored for the Saints, who got three assists from Kate Burrus and one from Kat Dornan. Defensively, Juliana Grella starred.

Marshwood 5

Biddeford 2

BIDDEFORD, Maine - Sophomore Maddy Poitras had three goals and one assist for Marshwood in this Class A South win.

Senior Aoife Coomey and freshman Isabelle Tice also scored, while junior goalie Lana Emery had two saves.

Newmarket 1

Concord Christian Academy 1, 2 OT

CONCORD – AJ Mulligan’s goal, assisted by Olivia Blackadar, gave Newmarket a 1-0 lead in the second half of this Division IV contest.

Concord’s Makayla Baglio’s goal off a penalty kick with 5 minutes left in regulation tied the match.

“Best game of the season,” Newmarket head coach Andrew Dawson said. “Two teams really competing at the top of their game.”

YARMOUTH, Maine – Traip goalie Lilly Stuart had nine saves in this Class C South loss.

BRISTOL – Quinn Arico had seven assists, five aces and six digs, and Heidi Geyer had five kills and three aces, leading Portsmouth Christian to this Division III sweep.

Individual game scores were 26-24, 25-13, 25-13. Marion Spurr added four kills for PCA.

FRESHMAN FOOTBALL

PORTSMOUTH - Joe Berry ran for a 60-yard touchdown on the first play of the game for the Clippers.

Demitrius Tsakiris ran for a 10-yard touchdown and Reece Gren connected with Trevor Hancock for an 8-yard touchdown.

Defensively, Sebastian Altamar, Nolan Bernier, Liam Grady and Isaac Frank starred in the win.

MIDDLE SCHOOL FIELD HOCKEY

PORTSMOUTH - Caroline Berling scored two goals, and Stella Spencer, Amara Boyer, Brooke Lewis and Emma Vetter all had one for Portsmouth. Defensively, Chloe Jones, Mabel Armstrong and Stella Spencer shined for the Clippers.
