Seacoast roundup: PHS golf second in D2 state championship; many advance to individual

GREENLAND - Shea Harrison and Grey Gagnon each shot a two-over-par 73 as the Portsmouth High School golf team placed second at the Division II state championship Tuesday at Breakfast Hill Golf Club.

Portsmouth had a team score of 377, while Windham won with a 372.

Oyster River (383), Winnacunnet (390), St. Thomas Aquinas (398), Bow (399), Merrimack (405) and Timberlane (415) placed third through eighth, respectively.

Winnacunnet senior June Doerr carded a medalist round of 6-under-par 67, and teammate Jimmy Schouller had a 72.

"Portsmouth golf had a fantastic final week winning the Seacoast Cup and finishing second in the state team tournament," Portsmouth head coach Kyle Harrison said.

For St. Thomas, Cam Cunio shot a 74 and Lindsay Butkus had a 76. Butkus had the third lowest score amongst girls.

Portsmouth's Turner Leduc shot a 74 and teammate Briggs Williams had a 75; all four will compete in Saturday's state individual championship at Beaver Meadow Golf Course. Schouller and Cunio will join them, and Butkus will compete in the girls tournament.

"Very excited for our four players heading to Beaver Meadow on Saturday to continue this terrific season," coach Harrison said.

DOVER - Kate Burrus scored two goals, Elizabeth Flynn had one assist and goalie Genna Bolduc had six saves as St. Thomas Aquinas (12-0-1) won this Division III matchup.

PORTLAND, Maine - Traip goalie Lilly Stuart had 11 saves, and teammate Rose Dembele had three in this Class C South loss. Traip is now 3-7-2.

PORTSMOUTH -- Annie Parker scored two goals, and Ailish Honda and Avery Timerman each added a goal for the Clippers (11-2) in this Division I win.

Sylvia Guarracino had an assist, and Morgan Ruhnke, Abby Nersesian and Evy Douglass all played well on defense. Portsmouth goalie Haley Coombs had eight saves.

DERRY - Sophia Guimaraes and Moxie Clifford played well for Winnacunnet in this Division I tie. WHS goalie Julianne Banks also played well. Both teams are now 6-5-2.

YORK, Maine - Five different goal scorers - Nick Hoy, Ty Haseltine, Robbie Hanscom, Stefan MacGovern and Connor Roberge - got on the board for York (7-4) in this Class B South win.

Roberge had two assists, while Jack Joyce and Robbie Hanscom each had one assist. Goalie Lukas Bouchard earned the shutout.

HAMPTON - Owen Janetos, Nate Kelley and Oliver Duffy each scored a first-half goal to lead Winnacunnet (8-3-2) to this Division I win.

Winnacunnet goalie Tyler Blank had seven saves, while Bryce Molnar had two assists and Duffy had one.

Coe-Brown Northwood 2

DURHAM - Ben Limric scored two goals, and Corey Handwork scored one to lead Oyster River (10-2-1) to this Division II win.

Jacob Zilm, Lucas Pelletier and Keilan Cox each had an assist for Oyster River.

HUDSON - Anton Folger scored on a free kick for Spaulding (3-9-2) in this double overtime tie in a Division I clash.

EPPING - Riley Willard scored five goals, and Anya Gronblom and Adrianna Marcus each scored two goals and Lexi Lambert scored one for Portsmouth.

DOVER - Alaina Hathaway had eight kills, Camila Garcia had 20 assists and Asia Saffie had 21 digs for the Saints in this Division II win.

HAMPTON - Allie Kasztejna had 18 digs, five kills and two aces for Winnacunnet (1-13) in this Division I loss.

Scarlett Orluk (four aces, five kills, three digs) and Lexi Perin (four kills, four blocks) both played well for the Warriors.

PORTSMOUTH - Georgia Pinciaro had a team-high 14 kills, and Margaret Montplaisir had 13, and Maddie MacCannell eight for Portsmouth in its Division II win at Stone Gymnasium.

Individual game scores were 25-19, 19-25, 25-19, 25-20. Roe Beland had three blocks and four aces for the Clippers, while Renee Martin had 13 digs.

Thornton Academy 3

SACO, Maine - Sophomore Kylie Folger had seven digs, and Sivan Semo had nine kills and three blocks for Class B Marshwood in its loss to Class A Thornton.

Teammate Averi Dudley had 13 assists.

GREENLAND - Theo Levine and Jonny Giegengack both scored a goal for Portsmouth.

Other PMS commendable performances came from Adam Mikolaities in the midfield and Cam Stacey on defense.

While Portsmouth fell to Rye, 2-0, Portsmouth defeated Greenland 3-0, with goals from Mabel Armstrong, Stella Spencer and Kate Wyand. Sierra Chapnick and Amara Boyer both had assists, while Madison Whitaker and Brooke Lewis played strong defensively.

STRAFFORD - Portsmouth varsity lost in two sets, 14-25 and 6-25. Farida Ibrahim and Grace Miles played will in the loss for Portsmouth (2-6).

In the junior varsity match, Portsmouth lost to Derryfield, 19-25 and 14-25. Jaylen Lemure and Savannah Parker played well in the loss.
