Scout’s view: Newest Notre Dame commit, 2025 quarterback Deuce Knight

Notre Dame football scored a massive recruiting win on Monday morning, when 2025 Mississippi quarterback Deuce Knight made his verbal commitment to the Irish.

The 6-foot, 4-inch and 195-pound lefty is the third commit of the class, the second on the offensive side of the ball joining running back Justin Thurman. Knight had plenty of elite-level offers, as the Irish beat out Georgia, Alabama, Oregon and others for his verbal.

Malik Zaire is the last lefty Notre Dame quarterback that has played significant time and Knight it hoping to be the next. Find out below what traits he will bring with when he arrives in South Bend two years from now after watching some of his junior highlights and his full sophomore tape.

Pocket presence

Scout’s view

For me, having a quarterback that knows the small intricacies of when to move around the pocket, when to bail or when to buy time is so important. Those few extra seconds really make a difference and Knight can do that. He has the ability to buy himself that extra time, which give his receiver more opportunities to shake their defenders.

Dual-threat

Scout’s view

Knight isn’t just a thrower, he’s a big time chain mover with his legs as well. He’s a glider on the field, not looking like he’s really moving fast, but picking up tons of yardage along the way. Knight’s highlights aren’t full of designed quarterback runs, he knows when to take off and gain yardage. His legs can be a major factor as well.

Easy throwing motion

Scout’s view

There isn’t much violence in Knight’s motion at all, he just flicks his wrist and the ball comes firing out of his hands. He won’t need much coaching when he arrives in South Bend for a rework of his throwing motion. Even though Knight is left-handed, he comes over the top, throws from his ear and has a great release point.

Accuracy

Scout’s view

A huge positive to Knight’s game is how accurate he is with his throws. Many times you’ll see him fit the ball into a tight window or place it only where his receiver has a shot at the catch. When you advance level in football, the windows just become that much smaller, but Knight has the ability to fit them in.

Outlook

Scout’s view

It’s way too early to say what Knight will be when he arrives on campus, he has this year and next of high school football still ahead of him. What we do know is that he’s one of the most highly-sought after prospects in his call, which tell’s you other programs wanted him as well.

By the time he gets to South Bend, Steve Angeli would be a senior, Kenny Minchey a junior and CJ Carr a sophomore, barring any movement. It’s highly unlikely that he will see playing time early, but following that, Knight very likely could take over the duties for the Irish.
