Less than six months after moving to the area and taking the head football coaching job at Scott High School, Jake Owens has resigned.

Owens informed the team Thursday he was resigning, only 22 days before the Eagles’ first game of the regular season.

Scott athletic director Casey Fisk did not respond to a request for comment Thursday evening.

Owens, a 20-year veteran of coaching, had been coaching in Florida. He coached Palm Bay from Melbourne, Florida, to an 8-4 record last season after nearly two decades with Space Coast in the Sunshine State.

He had replaced Eric Turner, who was head coach for the Eagles for four seasons. Scott went 4-7 last year. The Eagles moved up from Class 4A to 5A in the new Kentucky High School Athletic Association realignment beginning this season.

Scott will be in a six-team district with Boone County, Conner, Cooper, Dixie Heights and Highlands.

Scott plays its first game at Campbell County Aug. 18.
