Schoolcraft College to add men's hockey program beginning in 2024-25

Schoolcraft College will be adding a men's hockey team as a varsity-level sport for the first time starting in the 2024-25 season, the school announced Friday.

The program will compete as an independen in Division II of the American Collegiate Hockey Association. Schoolcraft will be one of a few two-year colleges that participates in the ACHA.

The program will be a non-scholarship sport. The addition of the team is a step towards the school's goals of adding athletic opportunities and increasing overall enrollment, Schoolcraft said in a release.

“This is yet another example of the College’s commitment to athletics and using it as a vehicle to contribute to our enrollment goals as well as increasing the opportunities that our students are afforded beyond the classroom,” athletic director Patrick Yelsik said in a statement. “It’s the epitome of a win-win.”
