Schefter: DT Javon Hargrave was between the Browns and 49ers

The Cleveland Browns are making a conscious effort to improve the interior of their defensive line after a putrid season. And according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, they were extremely close to landing the top defensive tackle on the market in Javon Hargrave. The former Philadelphia Eagle, however, opted to accept a deal from the San Francisco 49ers instead.

The Browns will now look to pivot, and potentially to former Ohio State standout Dre’Mont Jones, who has come into his own over the past three seasons with the Denver Broncos. Regardless of the big name they land, it will be far from the only defensive lineman they add in free agency.
