Schedule set for 2023 Cumberland County Football Jamboree. Here are the top 3 matchups

High school football fans in Fayetteville will get an early look at Cumberland County’s 10 public school teams at the annual Cumberland County Football Jamboree.

Douglas Byrd and E.E. Smith are the host schools for the 10-scrimmage event, which is scheduled for Aug. 11. The regular season kicks off Aug. 18. Seventy-First and Pine Forest are Fayetteville’s reigning conference champions.

In addition to Cumberland County’s 10 public schools, 10 other regional squads – including St. Pauls and Hoke County – round out the field.

The full-field scrimmages will feature 25-minute halves with a 5-minute halftime. Teams will also have the option to kick field goals or punt, but no returns or contact will be allowed on those plays.

TOP RUNNING BACKS: Fayetteville’s top high school running backs to watch in 2023 football season

STARS IN THE SECONDARY: Fayetteville’s top high school defensive backs to watch in 2023 football season

This is the sixth year the jamboree will be played on high school campuses after a three-year stretch at Fayetteville State.

Here's a look at the top three matchups and a full schedule for the 2023 jamboree.

South View vs. Triton

On paper, this is the best scrimmage of the event. Coming off a rebuilding season, the Tigers have one of the best quarterbacks in the region: Tariq Clarida. The Hawks advanced to the fourth round for the first time in program history behind returner Javon Cowan, one of the top running backs in the area.

Pine Forest vs. Richmond Senior

The Raiders always bring the buzz as one of the premier programs in the state, but the Trojans have experienced more success of late with back-to-back conference championships. Richmond Senior is coming off just its second losing season since 1972. This matchup should provide plenty of physicality ahead of the regular season.

Seventy-First vs. Panther Creek

The Catamounts haven’t experienced a losing season since 2017. Panther Creek has won 37 games during that stretch and Seventy-First has racked up 46 wins, including 26 in the last two seasons as back-to-back conference champions.
