Duxbury girls defeat PN in overtime: Top South Shore sports performers for Jan. 2-6

BOYS HOCKEY

Thomas Leger scored two goals in Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth's 4-3 win over Upper Cape Tech. Cam Wilbur and Kacey Brown each had two assists while Cam Teague (23 saves) earned his first varsity win.

Saturday, Jan. 6

GIRLS HOCKEY

Quincy/North Quincy's Siena Nichol scored a goal in a 6-1 loss to Plymouth South/Plymouth North.

Devon Moore and Ella Flaherty each had a goal in Notre Dame Academy's 2-0 win over Malden Catholic.

Megan McGowan scored her first varsity goal in Stoughton's 7-1 loss to Canton.

Molly Murphy scored two goals and Lila Chamoun recorded a shutout as Milton defeated Weymouth, 3-0.

BOYS HOCKEY

Pembroke defeated Quincy, 3-0, behind a goal and an assist from Brandon Perry.

Joe Perniola scored two goals in Norwell's 8-0 win over West Bridgewater/East Bridgewater. Evan Shea, Sean Gould and Jack McGuirk each scored their first varsity goals.

Sam Steinman had three goals and an assist in Middleboro's 5-2 win over Stoughton/Brockton.

Weymouth defeated Milton, 4-2.

Rockland's Ricky Esancy made 55 saves, but Rockland fell to Sandwich, 6-1.

Archbishop Williams defeated Bishop Fenwick, 10-2, as DJ Tandy scored his first varsity goal.

Scituate's Thomas McMellen recorded a shutout in a 3-0 win over Hanover.

Abington's Hunter Grafton scored a hat trick in a 7-3 win over Cohasset/Hull.

Brendan Teehan, Andrew Livingstone and Shaun Teehan all scored one goal as Oliver Ames defeated Attleboro, 3-2.

Friday, Jan. 5

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Blue Hills' Ally Johnson led the way with 12 points in a 47-15 win over South Shore Tech. Bella Sulfaro (9 points, 12 rebounds) and Kathleen Murphy (8 points, 11 rebounds) narrowly missed doubled-doubles. Braylin Lynch scored a career-high 6 points off the bench.

Whitman-Hanson defeated Hingham, 37-34, behind a game-high 12 points from Dylan Hurley.

Bridgewater-Raynham opened Southeast Conference play with a 68-62 win over New Bedford behind big nights from Reese Bartlett (19 points, 7 assists), Camden Strandberg (16 points) and Brenna Woodbury (14 points, 8 assists).

Jessica Perry scored 12 points, but Middleboro lost to Sandwich, 66-43.

Quincy defeated Scituate, 64-26. Riley Guterl scored 9 points in the loss.

Frankie Mazzini scored 12 points to lead Braintree to a 33-24 win over Needham.

Pembroke defeated North Quincy, 71-54, as Alissa Marcella (19 points), Soph Derochea (18), Allie Dwyer (15) and Elli Tam (10) all finished in double figures. Ava Bryan scored 24 points in the loss.

Cardinal Spellman lost to Bishop Fenwick, but junior Grace Foster scored 11 points.

Silver Lake's Cassidy Conroy scored 15 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and had 6 steals in a 52-37 win over Marshfield. Haylie McPhee scored 12 points in the loss.

Weymouth's Megan Doyle scored 18 points in a 47-27 win over Milton.

Maddie Oliver (25 points, 10 rebounds) and Alex Cassidy (14 points, 10 rebounds) had double-doubles in a 58-41 win over East Bridgewater. Reagan Dowd added 10 points and 7 rebounds. Lily Pavidis (14 points) and Jenna Oman (12) were in double-digits in the loss.

Tajeiha Madison scored 12 points, but Brockton dropped its Southeast Conference opener against Dartmouth, 56-38.

Lyla Peters was 5 of 6 on free throws in overtime and scored 17 points to lead Duxbury to a 52-47 win over Plymouth North. Kendall Quinn chipped in 8 clutch points and Regan Donovan scored her first 4 varsity points.

Abington's Ella Williamson scored 17 points while her sister Ava added 10 in a 47-26 win over Mashpee. Lacey Brundage scored 11 off the bench.

Hanover defeated Plymouth South, 54-26, as Noey Giardina had a double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds. Addi Monahan chipped in 10 points and grabbed 18 rebounds.

Ursuline defeated Fontbonne, 57-40, but Maggie Bedard scored 10 points in the loss. Lilly Blow (8 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals, 4 blocks) and Tressa Murphy (10 rebounds, 4 assists) also played well.

Sarah Chenette starred with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals in Cohasset's 49-27 win over Hull.

Nazilah Herisse finished with 28 points, 10 rebounds and 7 steals in New Heights' 56-38 win over Minuteman. Jizzelle Stephney added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 6 steals and Nevaeh Stephney had 9 rebounds and 5 blocks.

Allison Dicesare scored her first varsity basket and Kylie Mallett added 18 points (13 in the third quarter) as Avon defeated Rising Tide, 41-11.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Norwell's Will Bostrom and Ryan Luccarelli each scored 15 points in a 66-43 win over East Bridgewater.

Blue Hills defeated South Shore Tech, 55-32. In the loss, Ben Torndorf scored 12 points while Logan Perrault had 10.

Connor Pease (14 points, 14 rebounds) had a double-double while Kingston Maxwell had 19 points and 8 rebounds in Abington's 66-29 win over Mashpee. Tyler Staiti added 14 points and Will LeBlanc had 8 points, 5 assists and 4 steals.

BC High defeated Xaverian 54-44.

Mansfield defeated Oliver Ames 54-46.

Pembroke's Matt Delcore and Gerald Ellison each had 12 points in a 45-40 win over North Quincy. Hunter Wood (14 points, 11 rebounds) had a double-double in the loss while Charlie Baker had 14 points.

Edric Louisaint had three dunks and scored 25 points as Weymouth rallied from a 9-point halftime deficit to defeat Milton, 60-46.

Marshfield's James Molloy (18 points) and Jake Brilliant (16) led the way in a 71-43 win over Silver Lake.

Cody Quinn had a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) in Plymouth North's 60-46 loss to Duxbury. Sean King added 11 points.

Sam Larsen (28 points) and Jack Cullinan (21) played well as Cohasset rolled to a 90-43 win over Hull. Dan Baker added 14 points.

Bridgewater-Raynham defeated New Bedford, 72-69, as Noah Perry-Lewis scored 20 points. Jack Hannigan (17 points), Deshawn Faulk (13), Bobby Louis (12) and Carson Faulk (10) also contributed.

Carver defeated Boston Prep, 74-60, as Owen Grimes had 22 points and 14 rebounds. Tyler Lennox added 14 points and 11 assists while Robbie Peterson finished with 21 points.

Scituate defeated Quincy, 74-56, behind Roman Glowac's 22 points. Joey Burke added 15 points and Braden Dannehy chipped in 13.

Whitman-Hanson defeated Hingham, 60-54, behind 16 points from Evan Yakavonis. Ryan Baker and Isaiah Bean Brittian each had 12 points and Dylan Perrault had 10. Chase Mello led all scorers with 25 points in the loss. Charlie Matthews and Killian La Tanzi each grabbed 10 rebounds.

Jay'Von DePina scored 19 points to lead Cardinal Spellman to a 62-46 win over Bishop Fenwick. Joey Ebian added 14 points while Matt O'Donnell chipped in 12 points with 4 steals. D'Anthony Amado finished with 6 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists.

Braintree lost to Needham, 58-38. Theo Moore scored 15 points while Caleb Parsons-Gomes had 10.

Danny Johnson scored 19 points and Dom White added 15 as Rockland defeated Randolph, 56-39.

Rising Tide Charter's Quintin Baecker had 13 points in a 77-36 loss to Avon.

Hanover's Tyler Vincent (12 points) and Joe Picard (10 points) played well in a 67-52 loss to Plymouth South.

Calvary Chapel Academy's Seamus Hanlon had 30 points in a 66-53 loss to Holbrook, which got 22 points from Armani Perkins, 17 from Odens Massillon and 12 from Dakari Dingle.

GYMNASTICS

Hanover (134.9) won a tri-meet against Whitman-Hanson/Duxbury (121.8) and Scituate (121). Emma McKeon (W-H/Duxbury) won the all-around, beam, vault and floor. Hanover's Jadyn Molloy took second in the all-around and tied with McKeon for first on the vault. Hanover's Natalie Frank won the bars

Marshfield defeated Plymouth, 132.6-119.2, as Annie Spencer and Maya Overton finished 1-2 in the all-around.

Thursday, Jan. 4

BOYS BASKETBALL

A double-double from junior Roman Glowac (21 points, 11 rebounds) led the way for Scituate in a 69-48 win over Southeastern. Senior Brian Good (11 points, 5 rebounds) and Zach Fernandes (10 points, 3 rebounds) also played well. The Sailors improve to 6-2 with the win.

Todd Egan put in 8 points in South Shore Tech's 59-27 loss to Upper Cape Tech.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Junior Effie Giannopoulos (23 points) and junior Ava Orlando (14 points, 11 assists) led Notre Dame Academy to a 70-45 win over Silver Lake. Senior Lola Griffin (11 points) and sophomore Elle Orlando (9 points) also shined in the win.

SWIMMING

Brenna Short (diving), Audrey Hannigan (50 free), Addy Rhodes (100 free), McKenzie Gezotis (500), Georgia Pearson (100 breaststroke) emerged with individual wins to lead the Marshfield/Hanover co-op to a 96-74 win over Hingham. Anaya Allen, Rachel Ruminer, Soomin Jeong, Maggie McGonagle, Molly Beston and Rose Lydiard also had quality performances.

Jack Sorrento (200 free), Alex Wong (100 fly) and Dean Gomes (100 free) took home individual wins for the Marshfield/Hanover co-op to score an 83-74 win over Hingham. Aidan Parry, Sam Frattasio, Gavin Russel and Luke Peckham also contributed to the win.

Wednesday, Jan. 3

BOYS HOCKEY

Hingham's first line combined for 5 goals in an 8-1 road victory over Framingham. Travis Rugg and Paul Dzavik each scored twice, and Cam McKenna also found the net for the Harbormen (4-3-1). Matt McLellan, Michael Garrity and Logan Brennan had the other goals.

Canton's Ryan Elrick scored twice, and Travis Thomas and Brian Middleton added goals in a 4-2 road win over Foxboro for the Bulldogs (6-0-1).

Oliver Ames' Jack Corey had a hat trick in a 6-2 win over Taunton. Shaun Teehan added a pair of goals for the Tigers (3-2-1), and Brendan Teehan also scored. Goalie Nolan Gemmiti had a strong game.

Scituate's Meyer Gack scored his first varsity goal, and Owen Lochiatto and James Sullivan also found the net in a 3-2 win over Whitman-Hanson. Goalie Thomas McMellen played well for the Sailors (4-2-1). Chris Ryan and Luke Tropeano scored for the Panthers (3-4).

Norwell's Joe Perniola scored twice in a 9-0 win over Rockland. Nolan Petrucelli and Quinn Simmons each had a goal and 2 assists for the Clippers (7-1), who got points from 10 different players.

Marshfield's Matty Garland, Cole Blankenship and Sean Leonard each scored his first varsity goal, and Liam Fullam posted his first career shutout in a 10-0 win over Quincy.

Thomas Leger had a goal and 2 assists to lead Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth to a 6-2 win over Tri-County. Nick Sturdevant, Nick Falcione, Cole Tammaro and Cam Wilbur also scored for the Hawks (2-3). Kacey Brown had a pair of assists, and Jack Kelly made 17 saves.

Plymouth North's Aidan MacKenzie had a goal and 2 assists in a 3-2 win over Plymouth South. Sean Hallissey and Jack Brennan also scored for the Blue Eagles (4-2-1), and goaltender Kaden Bono had a strong game.

Pembroke's Kevin Murrin and Colin Blake scored in a 2-0 win over Duxbury. Brandon Perry added a pair of assists for the Titans (2-1-2), and Kyle Ready posted the shutout.

Stoughton/Brockton's Jake McSweeney, Owen Dupont and Gavin Sunmers (first varsity goal) scored in a 6-3 loss to Dartmouth. Goalie Sean McGowan made 34 saves.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Calli Pineau had a hat trick and an assist as Norwell/Scituate/Abington beat Hanover, 4-0. Bella Burns also scored, and Lainey Burns (3 assists) and Abby Greene (2 assists) starred. Pineau now has 12 goals and 7 assists through 6 games. Hanover's Gracyn Monahan made 46 saves.

Archbishop Williams' Julie Murphy scored twice, and Sierra Reardon and Emily Fleming added goals in a 4-0 win over Weymouth. Goalie Kate McLeish posted the shutout.

Milton's Nayeli Thayer and Maggie Mullen scored, and Lila Chamoun made 31 saves in a 2-1 win over Pope Francis for the Wildcats (5-3).

Hingham's Caroline Doherty scored late in a 1-1 tie with Malden Catholic. The Harborwomen are 4-2-1.

Pembroke's Jen Birolini had a hat trick, and Addison Nee and Ella Skieber each added a pair of goals for the Titans (6-1) in a 10-2 win over Quincy/North Quincy.

Christian Dalton scored 16 points to lead New Heights to a 57-44 win over Cardinal Spellman. Raymond Miller added 11 and Rayzhan Innocent chipped in 8. Joshua Quental pulled down 11 rebounds and blocked 4 shots. D'Anthony Amado led the Cardinals with 13 points in the loss.

Abington's Connor Pease (21 points, 7 rebounds) and Kingston Maxwell (19 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists) starred in a 74-52 road win over Rockland. Tyler Staiti (15 points) and Jake McSharry (11 points, 7 rebounds) also contributed for the Green Wave (4-3, 3-1 South Shore League). Rockland (1-4, 1-3) was led by Danny Johnson (16 points) and Brandon Comeau (12 points).

Hanover's Tyler Vincent scored 19 points in a 69-67 overtime road win over Marshfield. James Ritchie (15 points) and Joe Picard (14 points, 13 rebounds) also starred for the Hawks. In the loss, Gio Joseph had a game-high 20 points for the Rams (2-2, 1-1 Patriot League).

Middleboro's Matt Youngquist scored 26 points in a 70-59 win over Carver. Zach Iwanski added 13 points for the Sachems (4-0), and Jackson Davenport chipped in 12. J.J. Grimes led Carver with 15 points, and Tyler Lennox added 12.

Stoughton's Anthony Alessi scored 19 points in a 72-61 win over Nauset. Eli Connor (14 points), Liam Pearl (10) and Jarred Daughtry (9) also contributed.

Plymouth North's Troy Chase scored 13 points, and Nelson Thevenin added 10 in a 48-42 loss at Falmouth.

Blue Hills sophomore Jiai Gonzalez scored 22 points in a 78-50 win over Keefe Tech. Dominic Capaccioli (19 points), Tyler Anderson (13) and Elijah Dumornay (11) also contributed for the Warriors (5-1).

Holbrook's Armani Perkins scored 21 points in a 55-50 win over Wayland. Allen Brown added 15 points, and Odens Massillon chipped in 12.

Rising Tide Charter's Brandan Mazzoli and Ian Thompson each scored 15 points in a 64-50 loss to Bristol Aggie. Quintin Baecker added 8 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Rockland's Maggie Elie had 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in a 43-36 win over Abington. Kay-Lijah Oehlschlagel was a defensive standout with 10 rebounds and a pair of blocks for the Bulldogs (3-5, 3-1 South Shore League). Ella Williamson scored 14 points for Abington, and Rebecca Rix had 10 rebounds.

Norwell juniors Maddie Oliver (18 points, 7 rebounds) and Reagan Dowd (4 points, 14 rebounds, 7 assists, 8 steals) starred in a 48-29 win over Cohasset. Freshman Alex Cassidy (13 points) and sophomore Heidi Warren (9 points) also contributed. Cohasset was led by Sarah Chenette (11 points) and Molly Campbell (8).

North Quincy's Ava Bryan scored 24 points in a 62-42 win over Archbishop Williams. Maeve Powers (14 points) and Autumn O'Campos (12 points) also contributed for the Raiders.

Middleboro's Natalie Kerstein scored 26 points in a 66-38 win over Carver. Hailey Iwanski (17 points) and Jessica Perry (10 points) also starred for the Sachems (4-2).

East Bridgewater's Lily Pavidis and Jenna Oman each scored 11 points, and Jess Long added 10 in a 60-36 win over Hull for the Vikings (4-4, 2-2 South Shore League).

Fontbonne Academy's Alana MacLean (13 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists), Lilly Blow (11 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals) and Tressa Murphy (11 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals) starred for the Ducks (5-1) in a 46-33 win over Malden Catholic.

Cardinal Spellman's Erin O'Donnell scored 9 points in a 34-25 loss to West Bridgewater.

Blue Hills' Ally Johnson (14 points) and Kathleen Murphy (9 points) led the Warriors (3-1) to a 37-16 win over Norfolk Aggie.

Woodward School's Nicole Leung scored 44 points in a 46-45 win over Penguin Hall. Woodward is 4-1.

WRESTLING

Bridgewater-Raynham improved to 9-0 with a 46-24 win over Brockton, thanks to pins from Kennedie Davis (113 pounds), Josh Hogg (132), Jack Alves (138), Brent Von Magness (144), Cody Baker (157) and Fletcher Rinke (190). Other winners for B-R: Olivia Polansky (106), Lucas Santos (120) and Brenton Allain (150).

Oliver Ames topped Stoughton, 54-21, behind pins by Jonah Bornstein (113), Mason Cole (120), Sam Litwin (126), Ethan Anahory (132), Logan Dykeman (157), Jared Murphy (165), Willer Rossow (175) and Wood Habens Pierre-Louis (285). Joe Tabbah and Ethan Anahory also picked up their first varsity wins for the Tigers (4-4, 2-0 Hockomock League).

GIRLS INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Hingham beat Duxbury, 57-39, getting individual wins from Sarah Kelly (600m, 1:46.72), Clare Lowther (1,000m, 3:16.93), Catherine Salem (55m hurdles, :9.69) and Lindsay McManus (long jump, PR 14-4).

BOYS INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Hingham topped Duxbury, 77-23, as Brendan Burm and Nico Gibson finished 1-2 in both the mile and 2-mile, and A.J. Barrett won the high jump (5-10) and long jump (20-2) and was second in the hurdles (:8.27). Other winners for the Harbormen included Jack Brockney (55m, :6.98), Will Monroe (300m, :38.04), Connor Anderson (1,000m, 2:51.0) and Zack Larsen (shot put, 37-9).

BOYS BASKETBALL

Weymouth's Will Savage scored 19 points, and Richie McCulley added a career-high 17 in an 84-77 non-league home win over Archbishop Williams. Cortney Caldwell chipped in 13 points for the Wildcats (4-4).

Scituate's Brian Good (19 points) and Ryan Dunn (16) starred in a 67-57 win over North Quincy. Joey Burke (13 points) and Roman Glowac (11 points) also contributed for the Sailors (5-2, 3-0 Patriot League). North Quincy (1-4) was led by Charlie Baker (18 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals) and Hunter Wood (17 points, 7 rebounds).

Pembroke's Matt Delcore scored 23 points in a 51-47 road win over Plymouth South. The Titans are 3-2 (2-1 Patriot League). Al Marzullo had 19 points for South (3-1).

Southeastern's Chance Moya scored 24 points in a 59-54 loss to Canton.

BC High lost at home to Catholic Conference rival Catholic Memorial, 77-58.

Bridgewater-Raynham's Noah Perry Lewis (20 points), Deshawn Faulk (17) and Cam Santos (10) played well in a 67-61 loss to Mansfield. The Trojans (3-4) lost a 40-28 halftime lead.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bridgewater-Raynham's Camden Strandberg (17 points, 3 rebounds) and Reese Bartlett (14 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists) starred in a 61-48 loss to St. Mary's. Brenna Woodbury (6 points, 9 assists, 3 steals) and Ally Piecewicz (6 points, 6 rebounds) also played well for B-R (4-1).

Pembroke's Sophie Derochea (19), Fay D’Angelo (12), Jordyn Fay (10) and Shelby Houghton (5) all posted career highs in points in an 82-39 win over Plymouth South.

Weymouth seniors Megan Doyle (24 points, 13 rebounds, 4 steals, 4 blocks) and Callie Flynn (14 points, 7 rebounds, 8 blocks) starred in a 61-33 win over Marshfield. Fellow senior Lauren Hawes added 8 points for the Wildcats. Emily Fecteau scored 16 points for Marshfield.

West Bridgewater's Mia Harrington (14 points), Ashley McAdam (13) and Jenella Jacobs (8) led the Wildcats to a 51-22 win over Fairhaven.
