Saturday's Top Prep Performers: Rio Mesa reaches CIF-SS boys volleyball quarterfinals

Highlights from Saturday in high school sports:

BOYS VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFFS

  • Daniel Shander finished with 15 kills, 11 digs and three blocks, JF Referente had 14 kills and 10 digs, Jason Mejia compiled 17 assists and five digs, and Leland Pascua contributed 16 assists and three digs to lead Rio Mesa to a 25-17, 25-18, 25-19 sweep of visiting Village Christian in a CIF-SS Division 5 second-round match. The Spartans will play either Godinez or San Dimas in a quarterfinal match Wednesday.

  • Oak Park lost to visiting San Clemente in straight sets in a Division 3 first-round match.

  • Westlake lost to visiting Claremont 25-14, 25-21, 21-25, 25-14 in a Division 4 first-round match.

  • Camarillo lost to visiting Sage Hill in a five set-thriller, 24-22, 20-25, 18-25, 25-19, 16-14, in a Division 5 second-round match.

  • Channel Islands lost to host Ganesha 25-21, 25-22, 25-23 in a Division 6 first-round match.

BASEBALL

  • Max Peters finished 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Nate Lajoie went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Colt Franklin was 1 for 3 with an RBI to lead St. Bonaventure to a 4-3 win over Pacifica in a nonleague game to end the regular season. The Seraphs finished second in the Tri-Valley League at 6-2 and 13-13-1 overall to earn an automatic CIF-SS playoff berth. Devon Wilkes hit a solo home run and JJ Carmona went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Tritons, who had their program-record winning streak stopped at eight games. Pacifica finished tied for third in the Channel League at 9-5 and 15-11-1 overall. The CIF-SS baseball pairings will be announced Monday morning.

  • Jesse Chavez went 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs, Julian Perales was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Sammy Gomez had two RBIs, and Alex Tobias was 1 for 2 with an RBI to lead Citrus Coast League champion Santa Paula (16-9) to a 9-3 win over Rio Mesa in a nonleague game to end the regular season. Alec Fontyn had a double and an RBI for the Spartans (16-10-1), who finished tied for third in the Channel League.

  • Hector Alcazar went 3 for 4 with the go-ahead RBI and allowed one earned run in 5.1 innings on the mound, Mitch Tarazon was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Gavin Ramos went 2 for 5 to lead Oxnard (12-14) to a 5-4, 10-inning win over Golden Valley in a nonleague game to end the regular season.

  • Dylan Ramsey allowed three hits and two runs in four innings, Connor Jacobsen pitched two scoreless innings, Kaden Youmans pitched a scoreless inning to earn his fourth save of the season and had an RBI, Dillon Marrisett had an RBI, Nolan Johnson had a double and an RBI, and Johnny Backus had a double as Marmonte League champion Westlake (24-4) ended its regular season with a 3-2 win over Notre Dame-Sherman Oaks in a nonleague game.
