GIRLS TENNIS

WIAA State Tournament

MADISON - Karlie Schock of Bay Port won the Division 1 state singles championship at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

Schock, a freshman, defeated Lexie Hankel of Janesville Craig 6-1, 6-0 in the title match to cap an excellent first season of high school tennis.

Schock beat Annalise Yang of Sun Prairie East 6-2, 6-1 in one semifinal match while Hankel advanced with a 5-7, 6-1, 10-8 victory over No. 1 seed Olivia Minikel of Manitowoc Lincoln in the other semifinal.

Minikel went on to finish in third place with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Yang in the third-place match.

Ana Cristescu and Lillianna Graf of De Pere took third place in Division 1 doubles. They lost to Ashley Andler and Keena Cheng of Middleton 7-5, 2-6, 10-8 in the semifinals, then beat Alison Abhold and Ella Wagner of Kettle Moraine 5-7, 6-3, 10-7 in the third-place match.

Molly Jex and Lizzie Stuckslager of Divine Savior Holy Angels beat Andler and Chang 6-1, 6-2 in the championship match.

Gabby Stammer and Grace Ogden of Xavier took fourth place in Division 2 doubles. They lost to Sophia Torke and Grace Villwock of Kohler 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals, then lost to Bella Bauer and Josie Rondestvedt of Altoona 6-3, 7-5 in the third-place match.

Isabel Werner and Mia Darr of University School of Milwaukee won the Division 2 doubles title with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Torke and Villwock in the championship match.

Angela Wang of University School of Milwaukee won the Division 2 singles title with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Lily Olson of Madison Edgewood.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Spartan Invite

LUXEMBURG - Luxemburg-Casco took first place at its own 12-team tournament with a 5-0 record.

The Spartans beat Oconto 25-14, 25-13, beat Appleton East 25-16, 25-19 and topped Sheboygan Falls 20-25, 25-13, 15-10 in pool play.

In gold bracket play, Luxemburg-Casco beat Pewaukee 25-15, 25-20 in the semifinals and then won the championship with a 25-21, 25-17 win over Bay Port.

Alayna Heurkens had 110 assists and 21 digs, Aubrey Frey had 45 kills, 31 digs and seven aces, and Ella Vander Velden had 31 kills for the Spartans.

“It was a great way to end the regular season,” Spartans coach Jeff Frey said. “I loved the way we played, especially in the afternoon. We brought so much energy and passion.”

Bay Conference Tournament

GREEN BAY - Xavier went 3-0 at the conference tournament to win its 10th conference championship in the past 11 seasons.

Xavier beat Green Bay West 25-3, 25-9; West De Pere 25-13, 25-11; and Shawano 25-17, 25-18.

Mariah Potter led Xavier with 50 assists. She also had 11 aces. Belle Shea had 17 digs for Xavier. Annika Kowalski had 17 kills as well as seven digs. Madison Daley had 13 kills and seven blocks. Mattea Kiepert had 13 kills. Olivia Neumann had 12 kills and eight blocks. Haley Vande Hey had 10 kills.

NEW Lutheran Invitational

GREEN BAY - The NEW Lutheran Blazers went 2-2 at the invitational.

In its first two matches, NEW Lutheran lost to Kewaunee 15-25, 25-20, 13-15 and Manitowoc Lutheran 14-25, 21-25. Then in the bronze pool, NEW Lutheran defeated Peshtigo 25-10, 25-23 and Southern Door 25-16, 25-16.

Emma Laatsch had 22 kills and 23 digs for NEW Lutheran. Abby Kirchner had 59 assists and 19 digs. Lexi Dhein had 50 digs. Lexie Meerstein had 21 kills.

MARINETTE - The Marines got touchdowns from four players in their win over Mishicot.

Leahland Bertrand scored on a 31-yard run, Braxon Polzin on an 84-yard kickoff return, Lyric Anthony on a 13-yard run and Evan Berg on a 51-yard pass from Anthony.

Marinette finished with 259 yards of offense and was 6-of-9 on third-down conversions.

Mishicot had only 192 yards of offense, was 2-of-8 on third-down conversions and 3-of-4 on fourth down.

SHIOCTON - Nashua Krcmar ran for two touchdowns and passed for two in the Papermakers’ win over the Chiefs.

Krcmar finished with 118 yards rushing for Nekoosa, which outgained Shiocton 346-141 in total yards.

Ilijah Sanchez led Shiocton with 61 yards rushing.

WINNECONNE - Ethan Mathe scored on two touchdown runs and Zander Bartel and Brody Schaffer returned fumbles for touchdowns in the Wolves’ win over the Comets.

Mathe’s scores came on runs of 5 and 36 yards. He finished with 114 yards rushing on 17 carries.

Brady Immel had a 31-yard touchdown for Winneconne. Immel had 91 yards rushing on seven carries.
