Here are Saturday's high school sports results for the Appleton and Green Bay area

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

West Bend Sprawl

WEST BEND - Xavier finished third at the 24-team invitational, going 3-1 on Saturday.

The Hawks defeated Menomonee Falls 25-19, 25-22; beat Brookfield East 19-25, 25-16, 15-7; lost to Oconomowoc 25-18, 14-25, 9-15 in the gold bracket semifinals; and beat Hartland Arrowhead 25-21, 25-20 in the third-place match.

Mariah Potter had 17 aces, 11 digs and 87 assists for Xavier. Belle Shea had 36 digs. Halle Vande Hey had 20 kills and 11 digs. Mattea Kiepert had 11 kills. Annika Kowalski had 23 kills and 14 digs. Olivia Neumann had 20 kills. Madison Daley had 17 kills and 12 digs.

Appleton North went 5-2, won the silver championship and finished fifth out of 24 teams.

The Lightning beat West Bend West 25-14, 25-18; beat Germantown 25-15, 25-16; lost to Xavier 20-25, 25-17, 13-15; lost to Oconomowoc 19-25, 25-16, 13-15; beat Franklin 25-16, 24-26, 15-9; beat Brookfield East 32-30, 25-18; and beat Manitowoc 18-25, 25-17, 15-13.

“Our girls played so great this weekend,” Appleton North coach Steve Scheuerell said. “We showed a ton of grit and took some major steps forward against amazing competition.”

Emerson Van Lannen had 24 kills, 156 assists, 23 digs and seven blocks for North, while Ella Demetrician had 97 kills, 49 digs and 13 blocks. Teegan Charapata had 49 kills, 34 digs and 13 assists. Chloe North had 29 digs. Taylee Jones had 10 blocks. Maggie Hahnke had 50 digs. Kayden Lamon had 15 kills and 12 blocks.

Lutheran Invitational

MILWAUKEE - Fox Valley Lutheran went 5-0 to improve their record to 28-6.

The Foxes defeated Illinois Lutheran 25-22, 25-8; Luther Prep 25-17, 25-13; Winnebago Lutheran Academy 23-25, 25-9, 15-8; Illinois Lutheran 25-12, 25-7 in the semifinals; and Winnebago Lutheran Academy 25-16, 25-22 in the championship match.

Emma Nilson hit an impressive .571% with 56 kills, 20 digs, seven blocks and six aces for Fox Valley Lutheran. Greta Nolte had 39 digs and 20 kills. Riley Schmitz had 102 digs and seven aces. Ava Patchett had 54 assists and 25 digs. Molly Bixby had 62 assists and 20 digs. Brianna Stewart had 19 kills and Sophia Wunderlich had 17 kills.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Middleton Invitational

MIDDLETON - Appleton North finished in third place at the 15-team tournament.

The Lightning beat Madison West 25-15, 25-10 and Waukesha West 27-25, 25-22 in pool play, then beat Catholic Memorial 25-23, 25-20 in the crossover round.

In the playoffs, North beat Kettle Moraine 25-21, 25-21 before Sussex Hamliton beat the Lightning 25-22, 25-18.

Connor Cantrell had 121 assists, Nathan Ramus had 37 kills, Ben Brinkman had 28 kills and Jaden Ciriacks had 27 kills for North. Jack Keesling added 16 kills and Grant Hardy had 15 kills.

Kimberly finished fifth in the tournament with a 2-2 record.

The Papermakers defeated Madison Edgewood 25-22, 25-14; lost to fourth-ranked Sussex Hamilton 15-25, 15-25; beat sixth-ranked Middleton 24-26, 25-18, 15-11; and lost to Hamilton 25-27, 23-25.

“This was our last tournament of the season and I’m so proud of our five seniors,” Kimberly coach Matt Seidl said. “They competed at a high level today and we needed it. Ten out of the top 12 ranked teams in the state were there.

“Sussex Hamilton had our number in the morning but, wow, did we turn it on in the afternoon. Defeating the home team, Middleton, on their home court was one of the top matches of the season. We’re excited to now refocus, get healthy and some much needed rest as we head into October.”

Owen Krause had 25 kills and 18 digs for Kimberly. Brady Koester had 24 kills, 12 digs and nine blocks. Gage Stahmann led with 70 assists and also had 14 digs. Michael Janssen had 20 kills and seven blocks. Lucas Eckrose had 14 kills and 12 digs. Kameron Kemp had 27 digs.

Kimberly is now 25-6.

BOYS SOCCER

Notre Dame 3, Plymouth 2

GREEN BAY - The Tritons got two goals from Ian Noble and one from Michael Kussow in the win over the Panthers.

Notre Dame improved to 11-2-1 overall with the win.

Plymouth is now 6-3-1.

Kimberly 3, Whitnall 0

KIMBERLY - The Papermakers got two goals from Liam Paradiso and one from Owen Weidert in the victory over the Falcons.

Andrew Walters assisted on Weidert’s goal with Owen Sitek assisting on Paradiso’s second goal. Paradiso’s first goal was on a penalty kick.

Noah Sommer had three saves for Kimberly in the first half. Will Voet had three saves in the second half.

Kimberly had six shots on goal compared to two for Whitnall.

Hortonville 1, Wisconsin Rapids 1

HORTONVILLE - Dylan Glad scored the Polar Bears’ only goal as Hortonville battled the Red Raiders to a draw.

Hortonville is now 8-2-3 overall. Wisconsin Rapids is 9-4-1.

FOOTBALL

Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas 48, Algoma 20

LENA - The Wildcats rushed for 462 yards on 37 carries and didn’t attempt a pass in the win over the Wolves.

Trailing 14-8 with just under three minutes left in the first quarter, Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas scored the next 32 points to build a 40-14 lead with four minutes left in the third quarter.

Calvin Peters rushed for 254 yards on 10 carries and also scored three touchdowns for Lena/St. Thomas. Ty Shallow added 111 yards on eight carries.

Algoma was led by Isaac Yunk, who ran for 137 yards on 16 carries, and Grant Vandervest, who carried the ball 25 times for 118 yards.

GREEN BAY - The Thunderhawks took a 21-8 halftime lead and went on to defeat the Eagles.

Reid Nelson, Bryce Liebzeit and Griffin Steffel accounted for the bulk of Oneida Nation/NEW Lutheran’s offense.

Nelson completed 11 passes for 169 yards, Liebzeit rushed for 144 yards and Steffel had 139 yards receiving.
