Saturday Roundup: York softball wins 25th straight game; Exeter, Winnacunnet also win

CUMBERLAND, Maine - Senior McKayla Kortes homered and drove in three runs as the York High School softball team beat Greely, 17-6 on Saturday in a Class B South game. The game was called after six innings.

It was the 25th straight win for the Wildcats, the defending Class B state champions.

Freshman Sarah Orso added four hits and three RBIs for York, while Ella Hickey, Maddie Fitzgerald, Lindsay Rivers, Nya Avery, and Bella Santini all had two hits, and Meg Daly added a hit and an RBI.

SOFTBALL

Exeter 5

Windham 4

EXETER - Summer LeClerc's two-out, two-run homer tied the game in the seventh, and the Blue Hawks walked it off on Kristen Bickford's RBI bases-loaded single in the ninth.

Annie Christiana had two hits and scored two runs for Exeter (11-3), while LeClerc had two hits and scored a run. Edy Crawford had two hits, including a solo home run for the Blue Hawks, and Madi Paige had one hit.

Winnacunnet 6

Oyster River 1

HAMPTON - Maddy Eaton had three hits and two RBIs, and Chloe Cunningham had two hits and two RBIs for Division I Winnacunnet in this win over Division II Oyster River.

Lucy Gelbstein (two hits, two runs), Lilly Snow (hit, run), Fenway Schouller (hit, run), and Joslyn Snow (hit) led the Winnacunnet offense. Eaton struck out five and scattered six hits over seven innings, earning the win.

Sam Bishop had two hits and one RBI for the Bobcats, while Grace Spirito, Maeve Hickok, and Aliza Parks all had one.

BASEBALL

DOVER - Michael Skowron had two hits, three RBIs, and scored two runs for St. Thomas Aquinas (11-3) in this Division II win.

Kenny Avery and Ryan Gould both had two RBIs for the Saints, while Graham Willerer, Cade Murphy, Timmy Avery, Sam Grondin, Connor St. George and Silas Stanek all had one.

Traip Academy 4

Telstar 2

KITTERY, Maine - Sean Webster struck out 11 and allowed three hits and one earned run over seven innings, leading Class C Traip past Class D Telstar.

Caleb French's RBI double in the sixth tied the game at 2-2, and Chris Balano's two-run single put Traip up for good. Balano finished with hits and hits, while French and Quinn Alessi each had one.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Winnacunnet 12

Hanover 6

HAMPTON - Shea Graham scored six goals, including the 100th of her career, leading Winnacunnet (10-1) to this Division II win.

Sky Mace added three goals for the Warriors, while Elle Emery (two goals, assist), McKinley Fowler (goal, assist), and Sam Rademacher (assist) all figured in the scoring. Winnacunnet goalie Cadence Oleniak had 12 saves.

BOYS LACROSSE

South Portland 4

YORK, Maine - Evan Anastas' four goals led two assists led Class B York (7-1) in its win over Class A South Portland.

Quinn Walenta had one goal and four assists for the Wildcats, while Riley Butters won nine faceoffs and had eight groundballs. York goalie Evan Giacobba had 10 saves.

DURHAM - Alex Moody had four goals and Tyler Callender had three goas and one assist for Division II Oyster River in its win over Division I Dover.

Oyster River's Talon Beyer (two goals), Jake Failla (goal, four assists), Evan Plourde (goal), Cole Levesque (goal), Dee Tsakiris (goal) and Kavi Weber (assist) all figured in the scoring.
