Saturday highlights: Paint Valley basketball upsets Zane Trace, Unioto clinches share of SVC title

BOYS BASKETBALL

Paint Valley 62, Zane Trace 59 (OT): The Bearcats made waves in the Scioto Valley Conference race and earned their biggest win of the season after edging the Pioneers in overtime. Braylon Robertson and Carson Free each scored a game high 22 points for the Bearcats, including Free scoring eight points in overtime.

Gavin Kingery had eight points, while Logan Laug and Jace Rinehart each chipped in four points.

For the Pioneers, Landen Jarrell led with 21 points and Landon Robinson recorded 20 points. Gunnar McCullough added on 10 points, and Ezra Rippeth put up eight points.

Unioto 61, Huntington 34: The Shermans clinched at least a share of the SVC title on Saturday after a double-digit win over the Huntsmen. Blake Fitch led with 17 points and four assists, and Caden Cutright had nine points.

Newton Hoops and Ashton Crace each added eight, and Blake Hoops put up six. Jordan Perkins had five points and three blocks, and KB Perkins had four points and eight boards. Isaac Coy also had four points.

For the Huntsmen, Noah Potter led with 12 points and Frankie Hirsch recorded seven points.

Westfall 60, Piketon 34: The Mustangs picked up their ninth conference win of the year after taking down the Redstreaks at home. Brody Clark posted a game high 25 points for the Mustangs, Bryan Craig had 10 points and Henry Barnes added eight points.

Brent McGuire led the Redstreaks with 10 points.

New Hope Christian Academy 46, Waverly 41: The Tigers suffered their second straight loss by single digits after falling to the Statesmen on Saturday. Caden Nibert had 18 points, three rebounds and two assists, and Sawyer Myers had eight points, three rebounds.

Landyn Russell had seven points and eight rebounds, and Teegan Hurt put up four points. Gunnar Myers and Cade Carroll each added two points.

WRESTLING

Frontier Athletic Conference Meet: Chillicothe took fourth place at the Frontier Athletic Conference Meet at Miami Trace High School on Saturday. It earned 82.5 points as a team and had three wrestlers win in their respective weight brackets.

Cannan Smith won the 132-pound title, Evan Lake won the 175-pound title and Wes Scott won the 190-pound title. Among other placers, Zach Janes placed third in the 215-pound bracket and Griffin Sams took fourth in the 157-pound bracket.
