Saturday highlights: Adena boys basketball stumps Westfall, Huntington girls stomp Western

BOYS BASKETBALL

Adena 79, Westfall 52: The Warriors scored their second-most points in a game this season and had three players crack double figures in a key Scioto Valley Conference win over the Mustangs on Saturday. Easton Henness led all scorers with a commanding 26 points, while Lucas King added on 16 points.

Joedy Ater scored 10 points, while Cayden Lee and Bryson Smith each chipped in eight points. Christian Heath scored four points, TQ Wright scored three points and Conner Lane added on two points.

For the Mustangs, Brody Clark scored a team-high 20 points, and Bryan Craig cracked double figures with 11 points. Brenden Tuttle and Henry Barnes scored six points apiece, while Jeremiah Layton and Jacob Hicks each put up four points.

Unioto 74, Piketon 39: The Shermans logged their third win in a row after routing the Redstreaks at home on Saturday. Zeke Schobelock hit six 3-pointers throughout the night to score a game-high 29 points and put the Shermans ahead for good.

Ashton Crace scored 10 points for the Shermans, Blake Hoops added eight points and Caden Cutright rounded out the top scorers with six points.

For the Redstreaks, Bo Henry and Garrett Legg tied for the team-high in scoring with 11 points apiece.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Huntington 62, Western 6: The Huntsmen put up one of their best defensive performances of the season after holding Western to single digits in a blowout win in Huntington Township on Saturday. Allie Baker scored a team-high 22 points while also putting up four rebounds and four steals.

Leah McCloskey scored 10 points, and Emma Hinshaw added nine points and six assists. Tori SMith rounded out the top performers with six points and four assists.

Unioto 71, Westerville South 54: The Shermans routed the Wildcats during the Classic in the City hosted at Pickerington Central High School on Saturday. Mya Hamilton posted one of her best games of the season after notching 32 points, eight rebounds and eight assists throughout the game.

Milee Smith put up 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists of her own in the win, and Amaris Betts added on 10 points. Amelia Uhrig rounded out the top scorers for the Shermans with eight points and seven rebounds.

WRESTLING

Licking Heights Invitational: Chillicothe traveled to Licking Heights High School in Pataskala on Saturday to compete in an invitational tournament with 18 other schools. The Cavaliers placed 11th overall with 92 points, three points behind 10th place Watkins Memorial.

In the 132-pound bracket, Cannan Smith took first place as an individual after defeating Lancaster's Braylon Young by pin in 3:21. Evan Lake took third place in the 175-pound bracket with a 10-1 major decision victory over Cairo Vanterpool of Walnut Ridge. Wesley Scott took fourth place in the 190-pound bracket after being pinned by Bloom-Carroll's Tristan Britch in 4:29.

Griffin Sams was the fourth and final Chillicothe wrestler to place in the tournament. The senior took fifth place in the 150-pound bracket with a 6-0 decision win over Tyler Arnette of Westerville North.

R.J. Sochia Memorial Tournament: Huntington, Waverly and Unioto all traveled to Alexander High School to take part in the R.J. Sochia Memorial Tournament on Saturday. Huntington placed the highest after taking fourth place as a team with 168.5 points. Waverly placed 10th with 82 points and Unioto took 19th place with 20 points.

The Huntsmen had eight wrestlers place overall. Aden Breniser took second in the 106-pound bracket after a loss by pin in 1:15 to Andrew Siembida of Circleville. Jimmy Sexton took third in the 113-pound bracket, and Nick Miller placed sixth in the 132-pound weight class. Alex Breniser placed third in the 157-pound class, Mavrick Smith earned fourth at 165 pounds and Carson McNeal took second in the 175-pound class. Morgan Breniser placed second in the 190-pound class, and Jackson McNeal took third in the 215-pound class.

Waverly had three wrestlers place sixth or higher. Peewee Tolliver took home first in the 215-pound bracket after defeating Sebastian Grippa of Athens by pin in 1:53. Davey Adkins got his own first-place finish in the 285-pound bracket with a pin of Alexander's Addam Eblin in 1:27. Dallas Downs took home sixth as an individual in the 165-pound bracket after falling to Jack Lincicome of Philo in a 15-5 major decision.

Freshman Mike Owes was the lone Unioto wrestler to place sixth or higher in his bracket. Owes took home sixth in the 150-pound weight class after being pinned by Wellston's Ethan Case in 4:34.
