Sand Rock girls basketball season ends with a loss to Ider in AHSAA regional semifinals

JACKSONVILLE — Sand Rock girls basketball fell to Ider 63-51 in the AHSAA regional Friday at Pete Matthews Coliseum.

Ider ran out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter as Sand Rock struggled to settle down in its first trip to Jacksonville since 2020. Katelyn St. Clair, who was a freshman on the 2020 team was the one who could steady the Wildcat offense with 16 first half points. The Wildcats would tie the game late in the second quarter, but Ider had a five-point lead by the half and never looked back.

The Wildcats were outscored 21-12 in the third quarter and the Hornets rolled through the fourth quarter. St. Clair finished with 19 points. Kennedy Henderson had 14 points

Sand Rock won some key battles including the rebounding battle 32-18 and even shot 47% from the field, better than Ider. It was the Ider's 3-point shooting even at 33% they hit nine shots that gave them commanding leads at time.

The loss sees the end of a outstanding Wildcat season that saw them finish second in the county tournament, sweep the area regular season and tournament titles and advance to Jacksonville. The Wildcats went 25-8 on the year.
