San Francisco 49ers at Pittsburgh Steelers: Predictions, picks and odds for NFL Week 1 game

To open last season, Mike Tomlin got his team black Air Force 1s to power the Pittsburgh Steelers to an overtime victory on the road.

Kyle Shanahan might not need to buy anything for his San Francisco 49ers to keep them motivated to pull off their own season-opening win on the road. There are few who question what Brock Purdy can do at quarterback after he led his team to the NFC championship last year.

Mike Tomlin and company might be able to breathe a little easier if last year's sack leader, Nick Bosa, doesn't come to a contract agreement before kickoff.

Lorenzo Reyes: Steelers 23, 49ers 20

I see the 49ers as a bit of a candidate for a minor regression. Brock Purdy’s arm will be a question after his offseason rehabbing his elbow injury and Nick Bosa’s status presents a clear problem for the pass rush. Kenny Pickett had a nice offseason and I’m expecting Pittsburgh to take a leap and pull off the upset with the Niners traveling east for an early Sunday kickoff.

Tyler Dragon: 49ers 24, Steelers 17

Mike Tomlin’s led the Steelers to 16 straight seasons above .500. But Pittsburgh’s likely to start the year with an L because the Super Bowl-contending 49ers are loaded.

Victoria Hernandez: 49ers 28, Steelers 23

The 49ers have too much offensive prowess with Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey. As of writing this, Mike Tomlin hasn't done something to match the black Air Force shoes, and even if he did, it probably wouldn't be enough for Pittsburgh to pull off this win.

Jordan Mendoza: 49ers 19, Steelers 17

Both offenses have weapons all over the field, but this turns into a defensive slugfest. San Francisco’s defense makes a late-game stop to preserve a win.
